World of Outlaws Event at Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway on June 11 to Benefit Michael Ross Memorial Foundation Again in 2008

SEDALIA, MO (June 2) - The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will take to the half-mile at Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Missouri on Wednesday, June 11 for The Ditzfeld Transfer Summer Nationals, with all proceeds benefiting the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation.

Steve Kinser, the 20-time Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, was victorious in the event last season to earn his sixth career win at the historic fairgrounds. He battled with Tim Shaffer throughout the race and held off Donny Schatz down the stretch to pick up the win. The native of Bloomington, Indiana has two A-Feature wins this season.

Schatz, who is the current series point leader, has 10 Top-10 finishes at Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway in his career, including a win in 2003. He has three A-Feature wins this season driving for Tony Stewart Racing, including two consecutive.
Jason Meyers, who leads the World of Outlaws with five A-Feature wins this season through May 31, won at the half-mile in 2005 and has five consecutive Top-10 finishes at the track.
Joey Saldana has 10 Top-10 finishes in his 11 career starts at Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway, including three consecutive finishes of seventh or better.
Tim Shaffer had eight career Top-10 finishes at the blazing fast half-mile. Last season he competed in both the World of Outlaws event and the 360-sprint car event during the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation event.

Daryn Pittman has seven Top-10 finishes in his career at the track, including five consecutive Top-10 runs with the World of Outlaws.

Shane Stewart won at Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway in 2003 in a 360-sprint car and has
seven career Top-10 finishes at the half-mile.

Also in action on Wednesday, June 11 will be Craig Dollansky who is currently third in World of Outlaws points, Jac Haudenschild who is in the Top-Five in points, reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Kerry Madsen, 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Chad Kemenah, six-time Knoxville Raceway and Huset’s Speedway track champion Terry McCarl, Jason Sides who won at Sedalia in 2006, sophomore driver Sam Hafertepe Jr. of Texas, 2004 Rookie of the Year Kraig Kinser, current rookie contender Lucas Wolfe, second-year driver Tony Bruce of Kansas and fellow sophomore driver Chad Hillier of Washington.

The Michael Ross Memorial Foundation was founded in honor of the son of Tony and Kathy Ross from American Compressed Steel, Inc. following Michael’s passing due to complications from Tay-Sachs disease. The MRMF is a non-profit charity organization supporting Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay, Michigan.

Bay Cliff Health Camp is a six-week summer camp that assists severely handicapped children. The camp funding is raised to help remove financial burdens from the children’s families so the visits are completely covered including new wheel chairs, crutches or other medical equipment the children may need. The children participate in camp activities and are taught specific learning strategies to aid them and their handicaps.

“This Camp is a very special place and is something we all believe in,” said Tony Ross. “Each year we try to raise the bar and beat the previous year’s totals and that goal gets harder and harder to match every year. Together we’ve raised over $1,040,000 since the inception of the MRMF, which goes to show the dedication and support this charity has received over the past 10 years.”

Danny Lasoski, the 2001 Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion is again helping to coordinate the event this season. The native of Dover, Missouri has known the Ross family for a long time and has been instrumental in a number of different causes that have helped benefit the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation. Lasoski has won twice with the World of Outlaws at Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway and has seven career wins at the half-mile in his home state.

“This is a fun deal we like to put on for the fans,” said Lasoski. “We have gotten a lot of positive feedback from the races we’ve done the past few years. It gives our dirt track fans a chance to see some of the leading talent on the NHRA circuit, NASCAR, along with TV and radio personalities the race fans have come to know. With the Outlaws, the WOW 360’s and the Celebrity Race, I think the fans will see a very solid program for the money not to mention all proceeds are going towards the MRMF charity. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”

In addition to the event for the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, fans will also get to see 10 celebrity drivers competing in a Celebrity Modified Race. Drivers currently scheduled to appear include: Kasey Kahne, Clint Bowyer, Gary Scelzi, Dave Marcis and Randy LaJoie, with others to be named later. Also in action will be the Winged Outlaw Warriors (WOW) 360-sprint cars.

Gates will open on Wednesday, July 11 at Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway at 5 p.m. Central, with racing set to begin at 7 p.m. Central. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Yeager’s Cycle, located at 3001 South Limit in Sedalia, Missouri or by calling 660-826-2925. Advanced tickets are $32 at Yeager’s or $34 at the gate, the day of the race, with all proceeds going to the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation.
