Ragland Grabs LebanonMidway USRA Modified Feature LEBANON, MO (June 14) - While Mother Nature washed out the regular Friday night points show,Officials made the quick decision to run on Sat night a make-up race and it paid off very well as 98 race teams were greated with an excellent racing surface and many side by side battles all night long. In the USRA Modified feature,2005 champion and current point leader Jamie Ragland brought the field to the green with Don Luna to his outside.Ragland grabbed the early lead with veteran Rex Merritt right on his bumper followed by Luna,Scotty Allen and Central Missouri standout Eric Turner.With Merritt applying pressure the whole time,Ragland would stay glued to the bottom as 6th starting Turner was moving to the high groove and charging quickly.On lap 4,Turner's strong run ended with a brake line coming loose ending his night.Out front,Ragland and Merritt were still wagging war as Scotty Allen and defending champion Eric Hudson ran side by side for over 10 laps.On lap 15,Hudson moved around Allen to take over third place and started to run down the lead duo.Ragland and Merritt were showing the crowd how to race hard and clean as both drivers enetered lapped traffic while Hudson was swinging on the top groove.Heading for the white flag,Merritt tried a low groove move,as Ragland shut the door and Hudson was coming quickly on the top groove.As they crossed the finish line,Ragland withstood several attempts to capture his second win of the season followed closely by Merritt,Hudson,Justin Neuman and Allen. The FactoryStock feature would see its 6th different winner in 6 features this season as Ben Solberg grabbed the opening lead with Tim Petty close behind as Brian Webster was following.Solberg would continue to head the pack until lap 8 when a right rear tire was going flat slowing up his run.Tim Petty would take control as Mark Bourey made a charge from the 3rd row to challange and Dusty Rhoads was charging hard to grab a top 5 run.Petty and Bourey ran side by side until lap 11 when the lead duo made contact in turn 3 letting Bourey take over.On the next lap,Petty and Bourey made contact in turn 2 giving Petty the lead,but Bourey took back over control and held off repeated challanges from Petty to take his first Midway win with Petty,Rhoads,Webster and a wild photo finish for 5th found Doug Rich crossing the line in the air for position. The WingedSprint Car feature saw Rusty Quick grab the early lead with Galvin Galbreath following closely.On lap 2,Galbreath overtook the top spot as defending champion JP Compton followed closely.The lead duo ran wheel to wheel with Galbreath using the top groove and Compton down low.On lap 9,Compton grabbed the top spot and held off repeated challanges from Galbreath to capture his second feature of the season with Galbreath,Quick,Cody Baker and Jay Reynolds in a tight battle following. The SuperStock feature was a wild affair as JC Newell grabbed the early lead with Danny Newell following close behind with Travis Hill following.Hill's strong run ended with problems on lap 4 as he went to the pits.Up front JC was hoping for a Father's day win as both his sons Danny and point leader Ben Newell were applying pressure.On lap 9,Ben who started 11th made the pass to take the lead and grab his 4th win of the season with JC,Danny Newell,Clinton Betts and Bill Scharr following. A big field of Bombers checked in and after 4 tough qualifying heats and a B feature,the Feature rolled out with defending champion Mike Piercy grabbing the opening lead followed by Shawn Winfrey as they ran 2 and 3 wide in the pack.On lap 4,Winfrey went to the front and set a quick pace.Opening night winner Shawn Strong who started 6th moved into second place on lap 5 and applied pressure to the leader Winfrey.THis battle lasted until lap 7 when Strong move to the top spot with Winfrey following and 8th starting Joe Francis was moving forward.Winfrey's run would end on lap 9 as he spun sending him to the back of the field.On the restart,piercy applied pressure,but it was Rob White who was moving forward after starting 13th on the field.White applied pressure as Billy Waters was having a strong run in third place.Strong withstood the late race surges from White and captured his second win of the season with White,Billy Waters,Francis and Bill Schoen following. The B-Mod feature had Trent Harrison jumping to the early lead with point leader Jason Otto following closely along with Reggie Jackson.With Harrison moving quickly on the top groove,Otto,Jackson,Derrick Peterson and Colt Cheevers were battling back and forth.On lap 6 Otto pulled into the pits with problems as Cheevers moved into second place and applied pressure to Harrison.This battle lasted until lap 11 when Cheevers took the lead only to have Harrison get back in front on lap 12.behind this battle,JC Morton and Mickey Burrell were swapping spots back and forth.On lap 13,Harrison slowed and went to the pits giving Cheevers a clean run to the win with Morton,Burrell,Brian Monnahan and Josh Woody completing the top 5. Racing action will resume on Friday Night June 20 with a regular points
show for all 6 classes with Racing starting at 8PM. Results |
