The Hell Tour Returns UMP Summer Nationals takes to Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway June 24 SEDALIA, MO (June 16) - The thunder of engines will fill the air as racing action returns to Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway on Tuesday, June, 24, when the UMP Summer Nationals mark their return to the Historic ½ Mile on the Missouri State Fair Grounds. “We’re real excited to bring in the UMP Summer Nationals to Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway,” commented Clint Brown, SSFS Director of Competition. “To have them back after a 16 year absence is great and we’re all looking forward to putting on a great show for the fans.” The last time that Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway was in 1992 and saw Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame member Billy Moyer pick up the win. Defending Summer Nationals champion will lead the charge of the UMP contingent as they face a tough field of local competition filled with drivers including Terry Phillips, Jeremy Payne, David Turner, Chris Smyser and a while host of others. Long known as one of the toughest test of man and machine, 2008 will mark the 20th Anniversary of the UMP Summer Nationals as late model pilots from around the country criss-cross the Midwest battling it out in 26 events over 31 days. While traveling from tracks throughout Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, and Missouri teams will be competing for the title of UMP Summer Nationals Champion to put their name alongside the likes of defending champion Dennis Erb, Shannon Babb, Billy Moyer, and Scott Bloomquist. “Grueling, that is the one word that probably best describes the UMP Summer Nationals,” stated Brown. “To go out on the road for a month straight and not only keep your car together, but your body together it’s a real tough deal. To take home the Summer Nationals title you’ve got to really be on top of your game as well as have a little racing luck during that month long stretch.” In addition to late model action the evening will also see round 1 of the Impact Sign and Lighting Modified Shootout Series taking to the track. The short three race series will see local modified competitors competing at Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway for the shootout series crown. “We wanted to put something together for the modified drivers and crews that would give them a little something extra as a way of saying thank you for their support,” added Brown. Gates will fly open at 5:00 pm with hot laps set to take place at 6:30 pm and heat race action to follow. Adult admission for the night is only $18.00 with Seniors & Military $15.00 while kids 7-12 are $12.00. Children 6 & under are free for the night.
