Cheevers snares B-Mod Special at Lebanon Midway
By: Ronnie Williams
LEBANON, MO (May 30) - They say green is unlucky in the world of racing.
Better tell Colt Cheevers that because the young driver from Macks Creek
doesn't believe in that statement as he took his Green Allen AutoSports
B-Mod to victory lane Friday night as the Lebanon Midway Speedway held its
first B-Mod special paying event of the season.
31 B-Mods fought through qualifying heats and a last chance race to make the
20 car field as Lebanon's Jeff Albright Jr earned the pole spot with
Cheevers along side.On the start,Albright grabbed the opening lead but by
turn 3 Cheevers pulled a strong move to the top side and took over as the
pack crossed the opening lap with JC Morton following in third. The first
yellow waved as defending track champion Jason Otto and Tyler Brown made
contact on lap 3 sending both to the rear.On the restart Albright closed-up
to the leader Cheevers, but during the long run Cheevers would open the lead
back-up with great action for third place invloving Morton,Mickey Burrell
and many others. With Cheevers still setting a quick pace and Albright
staying close the battle for third was tight as Sean Williams,Darian
Hendrix,Jimmy VanZandt and B feature winner Josh Woody were swapping the
spots. When the checkered flew it was Cheevers grabbing his second Midway
Victory of the season followed closely by Albright,Williams,Hendrix,Woddy
Jason Otto,Tyler Brown,JC Morton,Brian Webster and Jamie Barker completing
the top 10.
The FactoryStock feature was a nail bitter at the end as Burl Woods grabbed
the opening with James Flood close behind followed by Ben Solberg and
Sundance Keeper. On lap 3 Flood pulled a power move in turn 3 taking the lead
as Solberg followed.Point leader bob Gustin,Sundance Keeper,Ken hicks and
defending champion Tim Petty were battling for third. With Flood closing in
on lapped traffic on lap 12,Solberg began to close up the gap and on lap 13
had caught the leader and was challanging as Gustin had his hands full with
Hicks.Using the traffic to his advantage on the final lap,Flood grabbed his
first ever Midway victory followed closely by Solberg,Gustin,Hicks and Petty
in the top 5 as the Factory feature again proved a great feature.
The Bomber feature had Jack Hamer grab the opening lead, but point leader Joe
Francis made a strong move to overtake Hamer for the lead.During the long
Green run,Shawn Strong began his climb to the top from his 7th starting spot
and battled with Tim Jones,Rodney Yost and Hamer for position while Francis
opened up a big lead.
On lap 13 the caution flew giving Strong a last chance to grab the lead, but
on the restart Francis pulled away taking his second win of the win of the
with Strong a solid second followed by Hamer,Jones and Yost.
The Hillbilly Farm Truck made their debut with Steve Steinmark taking the
victory over Willie Payne and Matt Schreiner.
The Car Enduro featured lots of action as Steve Stuart setting a quick and
lapping up to the second place car of Derek Micheal. On lap 45 Stuart lost a
rear wheel. This gave Micheal the lead and moving Kris Jackson into second
place and Brian Schutt into third. On lap 64 Jackson lost a wheeltaking in
out of the race and moving Schutt into the runner-up spot as Corey
Barker,Kolt Barker into the paying spots.Micheal took the win with Schutt
finishing 1 lap down as Corey Barker,Kolt Barker and Tim Petty completed the
top 5.
Racing action continues Next Friday Night with the USRA
Modifieds,FactoryStocks,LateModelSportsman,B-Mods and Pure-stocks with Gates
opening at 5 with Racing at 8PM sharp.
