by: Ronnie Williams

SPRINGFIELD, MO (May 30) - With over 90 race teams on hand on Fan Apperciation night the action was fast on the Quick-Quarter of the SpringfieldRaceway with action close and 2 new winners claiming the top prize.

In the 20 lap USRA modified feature Arkansas driver Darrell McWhirther grabbed the opening lead over Tommy Mitchell with former champion Erik Maggard following. This battle lasted until lap 4 when Maggard shot to the lead as current point leader Jackie Dalton was working from the 10th starting spot. With Maggard setting a quick pace,McWhirther was holding off the challanges of Dalton and Wayne Graybeal. On lap 8,Dalton went into second place as Maggard was quick up front.Back in the pack,Jim Body who spun on lap 1 had charged from 19th to the top 5.On lap 10,Dalton shot to the inside of Maggard to grab the lead with Maggard searching on the track for a quicker line on the track. On lap 12,Body moved around Maggard as the duo ran side by side.A lap 18 caution allowed Maggard a final shot at Dalton on the double file restart.Dalton pulled to the bottom of the track as Maggard found the very top groove to his liking.Heading to the finish,Maggard got a run in turn 3 as Dalton was going for his 3rd straight win.Heading to the flagstand,Maggard swung outside and just came up 2 inches short as Dalton grabbed his third win of the season with Maggard,Jim Body,Marvin Forrest and Mitch Keeter following.

The LateModel feature saw Jeremy Manes take early advantge of his front row starting spot to lead the opening 3 laps with Adam Brown staying close. On lap 4 Brown shot to the top groove and grabbed the lead as Ken Essary,Justin Wells and Chris Morelock were coming quickly from back in the 5th row.On lap 9 a 3 wide battle found Wells the 2 time IMCA National champion shoot to the inside of leader Brown and split the difference with Essary to take charge of the field and grab the 20 lap feature event with Essary taking over the runner-up spot with Brown early leader Manes and Morelock following.

The SportMod feature had local resident JC Morton grab the opening lead over the 20 car field and never looked back in grabbing his first win of the season.Morotn was able to withstand a 2 lap shootout over the field as point leader Billy Street and Mike Hailman battled hard for the runner-up spots with Mike Watson and Darrin Crisler following close behind.

The Bomber feature provided plenty of action as the field of 19 took the green with Jeff Brown grabbing the early lead with Nathan Gold close behind. On lap 5 Gold took the lead as point leader Robert high was charging from 10th to move into the top 3.On lap 6,High took the lead and was pulling away until contact with another car on lap 13 sent the leader to the rear of the field for helping bring out the yellow.Gold took back the lead holding off a late charge from John Coats for the win.Coates would have some issues in tech and was dropped in the standing giving James Redus the runner-up spot with Wayne Graybeal,Jesse Parton and Mike Willoughby the top 5.
