Tillman Halts Dalton Streak/Redus Grabs Bomber $$$
by: Ronnie Williams

SPRINGFIELD, MO (June 6) - The quick-quarter of the Springfield Raceway lived up to its reputation with fast and tight racing action all night long as the Bombers raced for extra money and a winning streak came to a end.

The Bombers took to the track 20 strong competing for extra money to win and after 3 action-packed heat races the field was brought down by the front row of Darrin Crisler and point leader James Redus. On the start Redus jumped out to the early lead and proved he was the class of the field by pulling away but the racing for second and beyond was three wide action including Darrin Crisler,Damon Tillman,Robert High and Brad Moad along with others. During the long green run, Redus opened-up a full straightaway lead and never looked back in taking his first win of the season with a wild finish at the line as Crisler, Moad, Shawn Strong and High completed the top 5.

The USRA Modified feature was a nail biter and provided a dramatic last lap finish.

Jody tillman grabbed the opening lap lead but David Kirkland powered around on lap 2 to take command with Eric Clay and Erik Maggard following.Kirkland looking for his first win pulled away to a straight away advantage as Maggard and Clay were battling with a tight  back behind them including Tillman, point leader Jackie Dalton who was going to 4 in a row,LebanonMidway Champion Jamie Ragland,Brian Green and Steve Muilenburg all swapping spots. On lap 9,the yellow waved for Todd Knight bunching the field up.Maggard made a strong move on Kirkland to take control. On lap 19 of 20 the yellow waved for Clay as Kirland ended-up sideways in turn 4 with damage to his car ending his strong run. This set-up a 1 lap shootout with Maggard leading. On the double-file restart Maggard went hammer down to hold on as Tillman went to the top side and Jackie Dalton went to the bottom.Maggard stayed in the middle lane going into turn 3 as the top 3 were racing to the checkered as Tillman made the top side work to take his first ever USRA Modified win with Dalton,Maggard,Ragland and Brian Green completing the top 5 in an action packed feature.

The SportMod feature also was a last lap shootout as Billy Dalton grabbed the opening lap lead only to see Jerry Lankton grab the top spot on lap 2.Veteran Steve Muilenburg used a smoth high-side move on lap 3 to take over while point leader Billy Street was coming from the 12th starting spot to grab the runner-up spot while B feature winner Sean Williams had come from 16th up to the top 5.Muilenburg was pulling away from Street while the pack for third spot provided 4 wide racing.Muilenburg went on to take his first win of the season with Jerry Lankton,Billy Street,Sean Williams and Mickey Burrell completing the top 5 only to have Lankton and Burrell failed tech moving Darrell Jackson and Vance wilson into the top 5.

The LateModel feature saw Adam Brown grab the opening lead with Jeremy Manes coming fast from row 5 to apply pressure as Justin Asplin was charging quickly from the back.On lap 7,hard charging toby Ott spun in turn 3 bringing out the yellow. On the restart,Manes drove to the top groove and took over the lead from Brown with Brown searching for a fast lane.Asplin made the move around Brown on lap 16 and closed in on Manes.A caution on lap 18 would set the stage for a quick 2 lap shootout as Manes held the top groove and Asplin shot to the inside with Manes winning by 1 car length following the top 2 were brown,Ott and Glen Yarbough completing the top 5.

The Legends continue to provide plenty of tight racing action as Dave Comer grabbed the opening lead with Justin Comer taking the top spot on lap 2.The yellow waved on lap 5 as Caleb Copher spun ended a strong run to the front. On the restart,Dave Comer went back to the lead with Chuck Comer moving into second place as Dave Bauer was coming forward quickly followed by Springfield point leader Park Jones.Dave Comer set a quick pace tonight in capturing the victory with Chuck Comer,Dave Bauer,Jones and Jason Rayle completing the top 5 with plenty of close raing.
