Stovall Charges To USRA Springfield Raceway Mod Main

SPRINGFIELD, MO (June 27) - Despite soaring temperatures the action Sat night at the quick-quarter of the SpringfieldRaceway provided an excellent track surface and side by side racing action all night long as the feature winners went down to the wire.

The USRA Modified feature saw Ryan Stacye grab the opening lap lead while Bobby Pearish took control on lap 2 and started to pull away from the tight field behind. With Pearish looking for his first win of the season,Stacye,Jim Body and Steve Muilenburg battled for the second place position as 12th starting driver Jesse Stovall was using the top groove while moving up in the field. On lap 9,Pearish would get sideways going into turn 1 while Stacye,Body,Muilenburg all slowed just a bit allowing Stovall to ride the top groove and move into the lead. The red flag would fly on lap 11 as Stacye went for a wild flip in turn one collecting previous winner Erik Maggard. On the restart, with Stovall leading,Steve Muilenburg began applying pressure while early leader Pearish was battling Body, point leader Jackie Dalton and a fast moving Jason Meadors.Pearish's strong run ended on lap 13 when a battery cable came loose ending his night. On the final restart,Body and Muilenburg were battling while Stovall continued to ride the top groove and was pulling away as Mitch Keeter who was recovering from a flat tire earlier moved into the mix.THe final 3 laps would see a tight pack for the runner-up spot while Stovall claimed his first win of the season while Jackie Dalton who started 10th nipped Body on the final lap to grab second place honors as Body,Keeter and Muilenburg completed the top 5.

The SportMods again went through 4 tough qualifying heats and a B feature to narrow the field to 20 cars and provided 3 wide racing all night long.Eric Tinderholt jumped to the early lead but Jerry Lankton moved to the top spot on lap 2 and was looking to become the 8th different winner this season.Lankton started pulling away from the field as Mickey Burrell began his charge to the top spots on lap 7 and set his sights on Lankton. On lap 10,Shawn Williams night came to an end as his car stalled in turn 4.On the restart Lankton found Burrell close behind as JC Morton moved into the mix for the lead along with Mike Hailman and last weeks winner Roy Maynard. On lap 17,Morton moved ahead of Burrell only to see Burrell take back te lead on lap 18 as Hailman moved around Lankton for third. On lap 19 while it was a 3 wide battle for the lead,Gary Rodocker's car spun in turn 4 setting up a 1 lap shootout. With Burrell in the lead,Morton choose the inside lane on the double-file restart with Hailman getting the outside. The Green and white both came out together as Hailman found a good bite up high in the turns and barely nipped Burrell for the win to become the first repeat winner in SportMods with Burrell,Morton,Maynard and Lankton completing the top 5 as 16 of the 20 starters finished on the lead lap and only 3 cautions flew in the feature.

The LegendCars feature went down to the wire with plenty of close racing action.Jay Reynolds grabbed the lead for the opening two laps, but spun in turn 2 giving the top spot to Paul Horton.Horton took control over Trever Drake while Kaleb Copher began his charge to the front from his 12th starting spot.Horton was setting a quick pace, but it was Copher who took control on lap 9 as Horton did a complete 360 spin and kept going forward.Dave Comer then took over on lap 11,but 2 laps later on a restart the car wouldn't come-up to speed as Copher took back the lead while Justin Comer moved around to lead lap 16 only to have problems and pull-in.Copher then withstood a late race surge by point leader Park Jones to grab his first win of the season with Jones,Jason Rayle,Rob Watson and early leader Paul Horton completing the top 5.

In the bomber feature point leader Robert high grabbed the early lead and never looked back in taking home the feature win with James Redus,Bryan Tillman,Mike Willoughby and Greg Cantrell completing the top5.

SpringfieldRaceway will not be racing on Sat July 4th so that the drivers and fans can spend the Independence Holiday with families and friends and will be back in action on Say July 11 with the first visit this season of the O'Reilly MARS SuperLateModels for the running of the John Kuntz Andy's Frozen Custard Memorial with support racing in the SportMods,Legends and Pro-4's.
