Maggard Squeaks Out Springfield Raceway USRA Main-Tinderholt Becomes 8th Different SportMod Winner

SPRINGFIELD, MO (July 18) - The action Sat night at the Quick-Quarter of the Springfield Raceway lived well up to its name with side by side action in all 4 classes and photo finishes all night long.

Action in the USRA Modified feature saw the Blonde Bomber Tammy Mitchell take the opening lead from her front row starting spot. The caution waved on lap 2 as Bobby Pearish looped the car in turn 2 and then early contender Jody tillman went to the pits with problems. On the restart,Erik Maggard flew to the very top side of the track to grab the lead from Mitchell.Mitchell then had a tight battle with Mitch Keeter and Jim body for position as current USRA point leader Jackie Dalton was working from his 10th starting spot and moved into third by lap 8 as action was fast and all over the track. With Maggard setting a fast pace on the top groove, the caution waved on lap 10 as Body came to a halt in turn 2.On the double file restart,runner-up Keeter picked the low lane putting Dalton on the outside. As action resumed,Dalton shot to the bottom with Maggard still running the high line. The duo ran side by side for 5 consecutive laps then Dalton went upstairs and followed for two more laps.On lap 18,Dalton went back downstairs with Maggard rim-riding that top groove quickly. With the white flag out,Dalton made another last lap lunge, but Maggard kept his Shaw Chassis on the upper line claiming the win with Dalton and his Hoffman chassis a very close second followed by Mitch Keeter,Bobby Pearish and early leader Mitchell.

The SportMod feature saw 21 cars take the green with Aaron Speck spinning in turn 2 bringing out an original restart. As the green flew again side by side racing was the call as Rookie SportMod driver Eric Tinderholt grabbed the opening lead from his fourth starting spot as he passed pole setter Gary Rodocker while Billy Dalton rode third.Tinderholt a former Bomber driver from Lampe set a quick pace as Rodocker rode a solid second and Darrell Jackson moved from 7th to take over third place. With Tinderholt ahead of the pack, the call was side by side action with 2-3 wide racing.Tinderholt would go on to grab the win and become the 8th different winner in this class with Rodocker gathering his best finish in second as Darrell Jackson,Roy Maynard in his 602 Crate motor coming from 11th to grab fourth and Mike Hailman just nipping Dallas Scott for the top 5 spots as the race went a solid 20 laps after the first restart.18 of the 21 starters were on the lead lap.

The Bomber/StreetStock Class again provided alot of action as Rex Freize grabbed the opening lead.On lap 2,Tyler Chainey took over the lead.On lap 4,Chainey got crossed up alittle aa cars went all over turn 4 with Charlie Hart getting the worst of the deal as his car slammed into the turn 4 wall and Freize went to the pits for repairs. This put point leader Robert High in the lead with points runner-up James Redus following. On the restart, redus took command only to have High get the lead back as Jack Hamer and Mike Willoughby were stagging a classic battle for third place.THe lead duo went bumper to bumper until lap 11 when High slowed for a lapped car and Redus got into him on the frontstretch.Redus spun sending him to the back of the pack as Willoughby now moved into second place. On the restart,High pulled away leaving the rest to battle and gathered his 5th win and fourth in arow with Hamer coming back to grab the runner-up spot followed closely bya fast moving Chainey,Willoughby and Redus at the line.

The Legends had a rough start but once going the racing again provided 3 wide action.Young Billy Cottrill grabbing the opening lead as Chuck Comer took a ride over the banking in turn 1.Cottrill would pit under the caution with problems ending his strong start. This put Kaleb Copher to the top spot and after a couple of yellows early the field restarted single file.Once they got going Rob Watson started making his charges to challange Copher as points runner-up Jason Rayle moved quickly into third. The racing developed 3 wide action as Rayle moved to the lead on lap 10 and Justin Comer had come charging up to third with points contender David Bauer moving into the top 5.On lap 14,Bauer who won last week had his night go bad as he caught a tire in turn 4 ending his run.On the restart,Justin Comer went around leader Rayle as early spinning Chuck Comer had charged from 16th up to third place. As the checkered flew Justin Comer took the win followed closely by Rayle,Chuck Comer, early leader Copher and Rob Watson.Point leader Park Jones crossed in sixth allowing Ralye and Jones leaving tied in the track points.
