by: Ronnie Williams
LEBANON, MO. (July 31) - A Lightning fast and smooth race track and close
racing headlined the racing action Friday night at the Lebanon Midway
Speedway with over 80 raceteams in the pits.
The Speedway presented a special $500 to win feature as the 21 car field
treated everyone to close racing.
The Start of the Bomber feature saw pole setter Shawn Strong grab the
opening lap lead with SpringfieldRaceway point leader Robert High close
behind followed by Rob White. On lap 2,High moved around Strong to grab the
lead as the lead duo started to pull away. The first caution waved as Richard
Sanders pulled up in turn two slowing up the action. On the restart, High and
Strong pulled away from the field with White holding a solid third place run
as tight action was behind in the pack. The battle up front was close with
Strong trying several times to get around High, but High seemed to be quicker
off the corners.Thid battle waged back and forth until lap 16 when Strong
went to try an inside pass and going for the lead.High and Strong were
picking up the pace and in turn 4,the leaders touched sending both spinning
around taking both out of contention for the win as the caution waved. This
put Lebanon's Rob White into the top spot with Brandon Waters a solid second
followed by Midway point leader Joe Francis,Matt Pilant and a fast moving
Kevin Forshey. On the restart,Waters tried to find a faster line around the
leader White, but White was able to pull away and took home the victory with
Waters,Francis,Pilant and Forshey completing the top 5.
The FactoryStock feature had Derek Brown grab the opening lead with Chip
Shaddux following closely behind with 3 wide racing behind the leaders. On
lap 3,Shaddux went of course and fell back several spots moving Donnie
Miller into the second place spot.with defending champion Tim Petty third. On
lap 5 Sundance Keepper went to the top side of the track and was picking off
spots 1 at a time. The caution waved on lap 7 as Keepper had charged from his
ninth starting spot to moved up to second using the high groove. On the
restart,Brown stayed down low with Keepper swinging to the top side as they
raced side by side.On lap 10,Keepper made the pass for the lead as Brown has
holding off charges from Miller, point leader Bob Gustin and Petty as last
weeks winner Ben Solberg was coming forward also.Keepper was pulling away to
grab his second win of the season as Brown held off Solberg to take home the
runner-up spots followed by Solberg,Gustin and Petty.
The B-Mods had a rough time Friday night getting the feature started as
after 4 starts the field started single-file.Several normal front runners
got caught-up in opening lap incidents including JC Morton and defending
champion Jason Otto and Ted Ballinger and last weeks winner Chris
Tonoli.Once they got racing uderway,Josh Woody took the opening lead with
Tyler Brown following.Colt Cheevers began his move to the front and was
aplying pressure.During the green runs, lots of action as drivers moving
throught the field as Morton was charging from the 20th spot.Woody and
Cheevers really were battling hard as Woody held on to take his first win of
the season with Cheevers,Morton,Tyler Brown and point leader Mickey Burrell
following.
The LateModelSportsman feature saw the 6 race winning streak of Ben Newell
come to an end.JC Newell brought the field down to the green grabbing the
opening lead as point leader Ben Newell moving forward from the rear of the
field.Bennie Joiner and Donnie Betts got together in turn 1 bringing out the
caution.Joiner was sent off the track for excessive rough driving. On the
restart,JC took control with Ben staying close behind.A lap 13 caution
allowed Ben to get a final shot at the win,but JC pulled away to take his
first victory of the season with Ben following along with Bradley McDowell.
The Enduro feature combined both the HillBilly Farm Trucks and the
cars.Steve Steinmark in the truck lead lap 1 but Kris Jackson grabbed the
lead on lap 2 with Matt Schriner moving into second with his truck.Danny
Caffey moved into third on lap 3 and was closing on the leader Jackson as
Brian Schutt who had fallen back was coming through the pack. With Jackson
leading,Caffey was applying pressure until lap 21 when he fell back moving
Schutt into the second place spot.On lap 28,Schutt ran down Jackson and took
over the lead as this duo battled back and forth going through traffic. This
battled last all night until lap 62 when Schutt drove away to take the win
with Jackson finishing on 3 wheels in the car division.Steve Steinmark
claimed the win in the truck class as Willie Payne grabbed second in the
truck class.
