SEDALIA, MO. (August 3) - A 60-year tradition continues next month when the AAA Insurance Missouri State Championship races return the Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway as part of the Missouri State Fair. Action kicks off Thursday night, August 20, with the Modifieds and Street Stocks taking center stage. The fair finale will be on Sunday night, August 23, as the late models of the O’Reilly Midwest Late Model Racing Association share the track with a co-sanctioned Sprint Car race pitting the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series against the O’Reilly Winged Outlaw Warriors. Thursday night’s show featuring the Modifieds and Street Stocks will likely feature last year’s champion, Jim Moody, defending his crown against a star-studded field expected to include Dustin Boney, 2007 State Champion Jason Bodenhamer, Jason Thompson, and other State Fair stalwarts like Howard Hall, Movin’ Dave Meyer, Chad Lyle, and Curt Potter. This year’s Fair marks the first appearance for the Street Stocks at the Historic Half Mile since 2005, and the field is wide-open with drivers likely to come from a variety of mid-Missouri and Kansas City area tracks. Promoting the event will be Clint Brown, who commented, “Honestly, with this race taking place on an off-night for all the area tracks, the only thing I can predict will be a large field. The winner could come from anywhere.” The MLRA Late Models are having one of their tightest point battles in recent memory, and State Fair Speedway will be an important stop on the chase to the MLRA title. Al Purkey and 2007 State Champion John Anderson are within eight points of one another, and well within striking distance are Joe Kosiski, Alan Vaughn, David Turner, and Bodenhamer. The Sprint car portion of Sunday night’s event features the first time that the ASCS and WOW have co-sanctioned a Sedalia event, and bragging rights and a large purse will be on the line as WOW’s Randy Martin, Brian Brown, and Jesse Hockett face off against ASCS stars Jason Danley, Don Droud Jr., and Jonathan Cornell. Each night, gates open at 5:00 PM, with hot laps set for 6:30 and races starting at 7:00. Thursday night’s grandstand admission is $8 per person (not including Fair admission, which is $2 on Thursday). Children 7-12 years of age are $5 apiece, while kids 6 and under are free. Sunday night’s grandstand admission is $15 per person, seniors and military $12 per person, children 7-12 are $10, and kids 6 and under are free. Sunday night’s admission does not include Fair admission. Fair admission is not required for fans arriving after 6 PM. Pit passes each night are $25 per person, which does include Fair admission.
