The 40 car field was narrowed down to a 20 car starting grid after 5 thrilling heat races and 2 Last Chances with the best in the Midwest on hand in the unsanctioned event. Terry Phillips and former MARS champion Bill frye brought the field down to the green with Phillips taking the opening lead.Frye found a high spot in turn 4 and moved his car to the lead on lap 2 with Phillips glued to the bottom lane.The lead duo thrilled the crowd by swapping the top spot back and forth with each giving plenty of racing room to each other.On lap 10 Phillips took back the top spot with Frye staying close.Behind the leaders,Jeremy Payne,Brad Looney,Justin Wells and Eric Turner were battling hard for positions.The only caution flew on lap 18 as Bobby Maggard Jr stalled on the frontstretch and Rex Merritt came to a stop in turn 1. On the double file restart,Frye picked the bottom groove with Jeremy Payne on his outside.On the restart,Phillips shot ahead and never looked back in pulling away.Frye was starting to gain in the latter stages of the race as Phillips was making his way through lapped traffic.On the final lap in turn 4,Payne made contact with Frye sending him spinning around as the field took the checkered flag.For Phillips it marked his third consectutive feature win with his late father's name in the Memorial race.Payne crossed the stripe in second but was dropped to the bottom of the standings for the contact with Frye moving a fast moving Brad Looney,Show-me Series champion Justin Wells,MARS Runner-up Eric Turner and Tony Jackson Jr completing the top 5.12 of the 20 starters finished on the lead lap in the 35 lap feature while 17 were running at the end of the feature..Heat race winners included Justin Wells,Bill Frye,Terry Phillips,John Beck and Brandon McCormick.Last chance races went to Mike Harris and Chuck Comer. In support action Steve Muilenburg use a last lap low groove pass over leader David Kirkland in top the action packed feature event.Kirkland making his first SportMod event of the season took the lead from a tight pack of runners on lap 3 and lead until Muilenburg made the winning pass.Kirkland,Dean Willie,point champion Billy Street and JC Morton completed the top 5 as the feature only had 1 caution during the 20 lap event which featured 3 different leaders.12 cars stayed on the lead lap and the lead pack included as many as 10 runners in contention for the win.Heat race wnners were Billy Street,Muilenburg,Kirkland and Jim VanZandt while the last chance race went to Jerry Lankton over the 29 Entries. Johnny Fennawald made the long trip to Springfield worth his wild as the Northern A-Mod shoe took the early lead from veteran Rex Merritt and never looked back.Merritt got 1 last chance on a lap 18 restart but Fennawald proved to strong Following the lead duo to the stripe were Erik Maggard,Jody Tillman and Jamie Ragland.THe 20 lap feature only had 1 yellow late in the race on lap 18 as 14 of the 20 starters finished on the lead lap as 17 were running at the end.Heat race winners included Maggard,Steve Martin,Merritt and Tillman.Merritt earned the pole with the most passing points with Fenewald along side. The Bombers provided another great event at SpringfieldRaceway as the 16 car field took the Green with points runner-up James Redus grabbing the opening lead from pole setter Bob Maggard Sr.With Redus opening up a lead,Shawn Strong started making his way to the front.On lap 10,Strong caught Redus, but Redus with stood several challanges from Strong in capturing the win with Tyler Schoen,Dan Wood and pole setter Maggard completing the top 5.Maggard and Strong captured the heat race wins. The race attracted 120 race teams in 4 classes under a beautiful Ozarks skies and good weather. The next racing action at the SpringfieldRaceway will be the Turkey Classic on Sat November 28th with action starting at 2PM.LateModels will battle for $2,000 to win and $200 to start with action also including A-Mods,SportMods and Legends.LateModels will run under Mars DirtCar Series rules.The RainDate will be Sunday Afternoon November 29th.
