Marshall Skinner scores USCS sprint car season opener win at
Malden
MALDEN, MO (March 20) - Past series Champion, Marshall Skinner from West
Memphis, Arkansas charged from the K&N Filters Pole Position in the United
Sprint Car Series presented by Goodyear 30-lap A-Main into the lead on lap
one and held on for the victory over team-mate Derek Hagar from Marion,
Arkansas in the sprint car portion of the 4th annual Bootheel 200 at Malden
Speedway on Saturday night.
Skinner was awarded the K&N Filters Pole after winning the Engler Machine
and Tool First Heat Race. Wade Oliver from Southaven, Mississippi started
beside him with eventual runner-up Derek Hagar inside row two. For the first
five laps that trio raced at the point before 2008 USCS Mid South Thunder
Tour regional series Champion, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas moved into
the third spot and challenged Hagar for the runner-up spot. Crawley then
made it a two-wide effort for the lead racing outside of Skinner and Hagar
all the way around the 3/8 mile clay oval before spinning out on lap sixteen
while trying to pass for the lead.
With Crawley vanished to the rear of the order, Skinner held off young gun
Hagar for the last fourteen circuits to victory lane with Hagar crossing the
finish line in second place. Jim Moughan from Springfield, Illinois finished
in third position in his USCS debut. Tommy Worley, Jr. from Farmington,
Missouri started eleventh and finished in the fourth position. The 2007 Mid
South Thunder regional series Rookie of the Year, Chris Williams from
Cordova, Tennessee rounded out the top five of the tough 29 car field from
five states.
2007 USCS Rookie of the Year, Don Young from Bartlett, Tennessee from
Nesbit, Mississippi who started in thirteenth position, finished sixth in
the main event. Wade Oliver collected a heat race win and a seventh place
finish in the A-Main. The 2009 USCS sprint car Bootheel 200 Champion, Jerrod
Hull from Sikeston, Missouri raced from sixteenth position in the starting
order to finish in eighth place. 2009 USCS Rookie of the Year, Justin Carver
from Drummonds, Tennessee finished in the ninth position after starting
seventeenth. Defending USCS presented by Goodyear National Champion, Terry
Gray rounded out the top ten after starting in eighteenth position.
Raymond Stull from Coldwater, Mississippi kicked off the evening and the
2010 racing season with a hard fought win over Rookie of the Year candidate
Morgan Turpen in the inaugural Goodyear Speed Dash. Marshall Skinner won the
Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Lee Sowell from Nesbit, Mississippi
charged to the win in the Butlerbuilt Second Heat. Derek Hagar won the FSR
Racing Third Heat. Wade Oliver from collected the victory in the 8-lap JE
Pistons Fourth Heat.
Jerrod Hull garnered the KSE Racing Products Hard charger Award for his
charge past eight cars in the main event from sixteenth to eighth. RE
Technologies Rookie of race honors went to 17 year-old female sprint car
driver Morgan Turpen from Oakland, Tennessee. Derek Hagar garnered the
Goodyear Racing Young Gun of the Race honors for his efforts as the highest
finishing driver under 25 years-old in the main event.
