LEBANON, MO. (April 10) - The chase for the 2010 season championship began Friday night at the LebanonMidwaySpeedway with over 60 raceteams in the pits as close racing headlined the evenings action. The FactoryStock feature saw Donnie Gennings grab the early lead from pole setter Mark Davis with last weeks winner Tyson Troutman in hot pursiut looking for this third straight win at the Midway.Gennnigs,driving Doug Rich's car had opened up a half a straightaway lead as Ben Solberg and Troutman raced hard for second place.On lap 5,Solberg took to the high groove and moved around Troutman as the duo had caught the leader Gennings.Going 3 wide into turns 3&4,Solberg kept the speed up and pulled around Gennings to grab the lead as Troutman was now moving in on Gennings.Solberg opened up a 8 car length lead only to see Gennings close it back-up by lap 9.Solberg had the car on a rail on the upper groove and withstood the challange by Gennings to grab his first feature win of the season with Gennings,Troutman,Donnie Miller and former champion Dylan Keepper completing the top 5. The B-Mod feature saw 20 of the 23 entries take the opening green flag as last weeks Spring Fling winner Colt Cheevers jumped to the early lead as the battle for second went 4 wide with Brian Webster geting up in the top groove as the pack was tight.Cars spinning caused drivers to get together involving Lonnie Henderson,JC Morton,Wayne Graybeal to get together in turn 4 along with Sam Petty and others.Henderson's night was done as Graybeal made repairs along with Morton and Petty to return to the rear of the field.On the restart,Cheevers got the jump as Lebanon's Jamie Barker stayed close to the leader as Mike Streigel and Micheal Stake were battling for third.During the long green run,Cheevers had pulled to a straight away lead and was getting into lapped traffic as Barker,Streigel,Stake and Webster were battling.On lap 9 just as Cheevers was in traffic the yellow waved for a single car spin.On the restart,Barker showed Cheevers his nose piece as last season points runner-up Josh Woody was moving forward along with Shawn Strong and Graybeal.Cheevers and Barker stayed close until lap 11 when Colt again opened-up the lead.During the final laps Cheevers pulled away as the race for Second was a dog fight as Micheal Stake pulled a low groove moved on lap 19 to get around Barker to secure the runner-up spot as Barker,Streigel and Graybeal completed the top 5. The StreetStock feature again provided outstanding close racing as Brandon Waters and defending champion Joe Francis brought the field to the Green with Francis grabbing the early lead as Shawn Strong stayed on his bumper while Waters and Matt Pilant were battling.On lap 3,Strong pulled the power move on Francis out of turn 2 to take the lead as Francis tucked-in behind the leader.The yellow waved on lap 4 as Billy Waters slowed for a flat tire.As the field took the green,Francis tried Strong on the low groove but Strong pulled back into the lead.On lap 6,the leader Strong slowed going on the backstretch with a tire going down as Francis took the lead with Brandon Waters,Matt Pilant and Rodney Yost battling for the second place spot as early contender Kevin Forshey had started to drop back.The race went green the rest of the distance as Francis took home the win followed by a fast moving Pilant,Brandon Waters,Yost and Josh Lewis at the stripe. The LateModelSportsman feature saw a three wide start with the field going into turn 1 as last weeks winner JC Newell took the opening lead with defending champion Ben Newell following.The battle of side by side racing between JC and Ben lasted until lap 7 when Ben got the better bite coming off turn 2 to grab the lead.Jc mounted a 3 lap challange but Ben was not to be denied as he pulled away in the latter parts of the race to take the win followed by JC Newell,Clinton Betts,Bennie Joiner and Leland Seymour. The PureStock feature saw a wild 3 wide start for the lead as Josh Moore took the opening lap lead only to have the tire roll off his rim allowing Grant Sharp to take the lead.With Sharp in control,Korey Barker started his charge to the front.From lap 3 until the finish Sharp and Barker went bumper to bumper as Barker had the faster car in the corners,but Sharp was better coming off the turns.It was until lap 10 when Sharp was able to pull away and secure the victory with Barker,Joey Long,Robert McGinnis and Adam Lowrance following at the finish. The MidWest Modz found Bobby Gough take over for good after a spirited 3 lap battle with last weeks winner JC Newell in securing his first win of the season. Action continues next Friday Night with the second round of the chase for the championship with action in the FactoryStocks,B-Mods,StreetStocks,LateModelSportsman,PureStocks and MidWest Modz.Gates open at 5 with Racing at 8PM.
