Knepper earns POWRi money at Shepp's
ALEXANDER, MO (May 28) - Nick Knepper scored an exciting victory capturing
Friday Night's 30-lap POWRi National Midget Series presented by Speedway
Motors feature at Shepp's Speedway. The event marked the first ever midget
auto race at the 1/4-mile dirt oval which opened last year.
Knepper passed two cars during the first two laps, moving into second place
behind leader Mike Riley. On lap 9 Riley drifted high, giving Knepper the
lead. Four laps later Austin Brown moved past Riley into second place. A
tightly bunched field raced behind Knepper with positions changing each lap.
A pair of three car accidents bunched up the field with nine laps remaining.
On the restart Knepper pulled to a three-car length lead over Brown. Knepper
appeared headed for an easy victory on the final lap, when he approached two
lapped cars and got trapped on the bottom of the track, allowing Brown one
last chance at the lead.
Brown running the high side exiting Turn 4 closed to a half-car length of
Knepper at the finish. Knepper driving the Junior Knepper owned Spike/Ford-Esslinger
No. 55, was followed by Brown, Brad Loyet, Riley and Tim Siner.
