Last Lap Action Produces Victories At Lebanon Midway For Strong And Solberg

LEBANON, MO. (June 13) - Despite early morning heavy rains and a late afternoon shower,the racing events were still held at the Lebanon Midway Speedway Friday night and last lap action keeping the crowd wondering who was going to win with a fast and smooth surface waiting for the drivers.

 The FactoryStock class saw point leader Tyson Troutman grab the opening lead with Ben Solberg close behind.Solberg would grab the top spot on lap 2 with Troutman staying close.On lap 4,Mark Davis had fliud come out from his car as the leader Solberg spun in turn 2 bringing out the yellow flag.Troutman brought the field to the restart with a fast moving Donnie Gennings.The battle up front was nip and tuck as Tim Jones had closed-up the gap and moving quickly.With Troutman in the lead,Gennings had tried several laps to take the top spot but with no luck as Solberg was moving up the ladder.On lap 10,Gennings made a smooth pass to take the lead as Troutman bobbled allowing jones and Solberg to also get by.With Gennnigs looking for his first win of the season driving a solid line,Solberg rocketed by jones and set his sights on Gennings.Heading to the white flag Solberg moved up the track and got a strong bite in the turns.Going into turn 3,Gennings stayed in the lower groove as Solberg rode the very top groove as the duo went side by side out of turn 4.As the checkered flew,Solberg lunged forward to nip Genings at the line for the victory with Gennings,Jones,Troutman and Chris Wynn in the top 5.

 The Modified feature  had plenty of racing action as JC Morotn and Micheal Stake brought the field to the green with Stake getting the top spot with Morton staying down low as Stake stayed on the top groove while Shawn Strong and Jamie Barker were side by side.With Stake setting a quick pace,Strong moved into second and ran down the leader with side by side action up front.Stake would surrender the top spot by a nose on lap 8 as Strong took the lead with Stake grabbing it back on lap 9.The only caution of the feature waved on lap 10 for Colt Barker's car coming to a halt in turn 4.On the restart,Stake started to pull away as Strong stayed close behind while a dogfight for third place between Barker,Brian Webster,last weeks winner Tyler Brown and Morton while point leader Wayne Graybeal was in the middle of it also.As Stake took the white flag using the very top groove, he jumped the cushion in turn 2 and tried to keep it off the wall as Strong closed-up and made the pass to take the lead and held on to grab his first Modified feature of the season at Midway.Stake,J.Barker,Webster and Tyler Brown completed the top 5 in an action packed feature.

 The StreetStock feature had Billy Waters grab the opening lap lead with JR Aitken close behind.Waters cut down a tire forcing him to the pits.Keith Cheever took over the lead with point leader Joe Francis following.The battle up front was tight as Cheever was running his strongest race of the season while Matt Keeth,Jack Hamer and Brandon Waters were battling for position.Francis took over the top spot on lap 4 but Cheever was staying right along side of Francis.Brandon Waters fell by the wayside on lap 7 leaving Keeth and Hamer to race for third place.Up front Francis and Cheever were still battling with Francis holding the leaad but Cheever was in the hunt.During the late stages Francis started to pull away,but Cheever closed-up the gap as Hamer moved into third with last weeks winner Rodney Yost coming from the 11th starting spot to challange.Cheever made a late surge at Francis,but on the final lap Francis pulled away as Cheever had a tire going flat.Francis would grab the win with Cheever a solid second followed by Hamer,Yost and Keeth at the finish.

 The PureStock saw a bif field of cars sign-in as Brandon Knutdson and point leader Kory Barker brought the field to the green with side by side action early as Barker took the opening lead.Knutdson stayed close to Barker as Cory was setting a fast pace while Frank Bryson was holding a solid third place with defending champion Les Hayes and Adam Lowrance battling.On lap 8,Barker started to pull away from the field as Knutdson started to slow-up with Bryson,Hates,Lowrance and a fast moving Danny Caffey battling.

 Up front it was all Barker tonight grabbing the win as Bryson drove to his best ever finish taking the runner-up spot with Lowrance,Hayes and Knutdson following.

 Sportman action saw JC Newell take the opening lead with point leader Ben Newell running the low groove following.The Newell family battle for the lead lasted with wheel to wheel action until lap 6 when Ben found some extra power to take the lead with JC following as last weeks winner Micheal Jones was coming quickly.A late race caution gave JC and Jones a chance to grab the win,but Ben drove away in the final 2 laps to secure the win with JC Newell,Jones,Clinton Betts and Donnie Betts following.

 The Midwest Modz class saw a evenly match battle between Jeremy Manes and point leader JC Newell.Manes and Newell ran several laps side by side until Manes pulled away with 2 laps to go to get his first win of the season with Newell and Earl Muilenburg following.

 Action continues Fridat night as the chase for the championship continues with FactoryStocks,Modifieds,StreetStocks,PureStocks,Sportsman and Midwest Modz.Hot laps begin at 7:05 with racing at 8PM.Gates open at 5PM.
