Nations Breaks
Stovall Stranglehold at Lucas Oil Speedway. Wilson and Keepper also Collect
Wins
by: Dan Robinson
WHEATLAND, MO (July 1, 2010) - On an absolutely perfect July evening in
Wheatland, Missouri Shawn Nations become only the second different winner in
the Pitt's Homes A-Modifieds at Lucas Oil Speedway as he drove his GRT by
Phillips chassis to a narrow victory over previously unbeaten Jesse Stovall.
Vance Wilson scored his second TNT Quick Shop ULMA Late Model win in a row
while Sundance Keepper rebounded from last weeks heat race roll over to
score the win in the Carson's Corner Napa Factory Stocks.
The story of the Special Thursday Night Thunder event was Nations as the
Mack Creek, Missouri driver has been a contender in recent weeks in the
Pitt's Homes A-Modifieds only to see Stovall mount a charge and overtake
him. He was not to be denied tonight however as Nations worked his way to
the lead from his fourth starting spot and held off repeated challenges from
Stovall as the pair swapped lines high and low throughout the main event.
Stovall was forced to start from 12th after struggling to a third place
finish in his heat race on an ultra fast Lucas Oil Speedway surface. A
jubilant Nations visited the Lucas Oil Speedway Winners Circle for the first
time in 2010 while also collecting the extra $75 bounty money put up by CB
Race Photos. Stovall settled for second while a consistent Tim Setzer drove
from his ninth starting spot to finish in third. Lebanon's Jamie Ragland
scored his second Top-5 finish in a row coming home in fourth while Mickey
Burrell charged all the way from 18th to fifth at the finish.
A strong field of TNT Quick Shop ULMA Late Models came out for Night One of
the ULMA Triple Crown Shootout with Frankford, Missouri's Vance Wilson
scoring his second TNT Quick Shop Late Model win in a row. Centerview,
Missouri's Jason Bodenhamer took advantage of the rare midweek show at the
"Diamond of Dirt Tracks" to score a solid second place finish on a double
point night for the ULMA Competitors. Odessa, Missouri's Steven Clancy
battled Bodee door to door for much of the race ultimately settling for
third at the finish after starting on the pole. California, Missouri's Jeff
Schlup made a rare appearance at Lucas Oil Speedway to finish in fourth with
Warrensburg's Brett Wood rounding out the Top-5.
Everton, Missouri's Sundance Keepper rebounded from last weekends hard
rollover to capture the win in the Carson's Corner Napa Factory Stocks. A
severely damaged 6-7/8 machine left Lucas Oil Speedway last weekend but hard
work and perseverance paid off for Keepper this week as he took his second
win of 2010. The night was not without trouble however he lost most of the
braking system during the first caution flag of the night and broke
something in the drivetrain as he raced past the AAA Start/Finish line.
Keepper received an escort in the Hermitage Lumber Push Truck as he accepted
his feature winning hardware minus his race car. Ben Solberg started
eleventh and worked his way all the way to the runner up spot at the finish
while Wheatland's Randy Gilmore made it "to the hill" for the second week in
a row with a very consistent third place finish. Last week's feature winner
Chris Hawkins charged from his 14th starting spot to fourth at the finish.
with Nixa's Bradley Gideon rounding out the Top-5.
