Strong Headlines Midway Firecracker Special In B-Mods
LEBANON, MO (July 2) - Before a capacity crowd Friday night at the Lebanon
Midway Speedway, the area drivers turned up the heat with great side by side
racing action as Rookie Modified driver Shawn Strong played a waiting game
before passing Micheal Stake on lap 12 of the 20 lap Main Event to record
his second feature win of the season at the Midway.
The Energy Company Modifieds rolled out with Lebanon high School graduate
Stake on the pole with Charlie Gentile to his outside.Stake grabbed the
early lead only to see caution waved as Jerimiah Mooney spun.On the restart
Stake jumped out to the lead again while josh woody followed closely
behind.A lap 2 incident sent points runner-up Tyler Brown to the pits ending
his chance for a third victory.On the restart,Stake was using the high
groove as Woody and Strong battled for the runner-up spot with Wes Long
following.On lap 6,Strong moved around woody and began his charge to the
leader Stake as a tight battle for fourth place developed in the pack.Stake
was setting a quick pace as Strong slowly closed-up the gap while Woody
settled in third spot with Gentile,Eric Tinderholt,Ted Ballinger and point
leader Wayne Graybeal following.With Stake looking for his first win of the
season,Strong was closing the gap quickly but Stake was holding on.A lap 10
caution for Kolt Barker bunched-up the field as Strong applied pressure to
Stake on the restart.On lap 12,Strong made the pass coming out of turn four
to grab the lead and withstood a lap 15 challange from Stake in grabbing his
second win with Stake,Woody,Tinderholt and Gentile completing the top 5.
Strong who has dominated the Bomber class the last two seasons has been on a
roll in the last month while collecting wins at
Midway,SpringfieldRaceway,Dallas CountySpeedway and MonettSpeedway.
"After a hard crash at Springfield,we took the car to Scotty Allen to get it
fixed.They found some other issues and since then it has been a
rocketship"quoted the winner."It is alot different than the StreetStock cars
and getting your chassis dialed-in is the key.
Central Bank FactoryStock action was tight all night long as point leader
Tyson Troutman brought the field to the green with defending champion Bob
Gustin following closely as points runner-up Ben Solberg jumped to the top
groove.Gustin would grab the lead only to see Troutman grab it back as Craig
Danuser was gaining on the lead trio.Last weeks winner Sundance Keepper who
started 11th in the field was quietly picking off cars in going to the front
pack.A lap 6 bobble by Gustin sent him backwards on the running order as
Solberg had moved into the runner-up spot while Troutman was leading and
Keepper was charging up to the third place spot.On lap 7,Solberg went from
the top groove to the bottom groove as Troutman and he went door to door as
Keepper and Danuser were gaining quickly.Solberg would make the low side
pass stick as he took over the top spot and went on to record his sixth
victory of the season while Keepper moved into the runner-up spot with
Troutman,Danuser and Tim Jones completing the top 5.Solberg would gain 4
points on Troutman in the season long standings.
The StreetStock event was action packed as always as Rodney Yost would set a
fast pace for the feature while Brandon Waters would settle in the runner-up
spot early.Lebanon's monk Barker had his car flyin tonight as Monk battled
early and moved into the second place position during the mid-race
stretch.With yost checking out,Barker started to close-in until he spun on
lap 10.Point lead Joe Francis quietly moved up in the field and took
advantage of two late cautions to challange Yost.Yost would deny the charges
and went to record his second win of the season with Francis,Brandon
Waters,Matt Keeth and Terry Mizer completing the top 5.
PureStock action was wild as Shorty Doublin grabbed the early lead with
Brandon Knudtson following closely and Joey Long in contention.Point lead
Kory Barker was trying to move through the field but found traffic tough
tonight.Up front Doublin and Knudtson battled with Brandon taking the
lead.During the long green run,Barker moved through the field and grabbed
the top spot with only 2 laps remaining in tking his 4th feature win of the
season with Knudtson,S.Doublin,Joey Long and Matt Young completing the top
5.Early night front runner-Danny Coffey suffered problems while runnnig the
dash for cash and not allowing him to compete in the feature along with
points runner-up Robert McGinnis with problems.
Sportsman feature action saw Micheal Jones grab the opening lard as JC
Newell moved into the runner-up spot.Jones would set the pace for 3 laps
before the veteran Newell made a low groove move in rcording his second
feature win of the season after withstanding a 7 lap battle with point
leader Ben Newell.Following the Newell family to the line was early leader
Jones,Tim Ballinger and Bradley McDowell.
The capacity crowd was entertained with a beautiful Fireworks show during
the intermission break with a nice Independence Tribute also.
Action continues Friday night July 9th as the Show-Me Racin Series
SuperLatemodels compete for the first time this season at Midway.Drivers
such as Ken Essary,defending series champion Justin Wells,Lebanon's Brandon
McCormick,Arkansas driver Larry Campbell,Chris Morelock and many others
along with points action in the B-Mods,FactoryStocks,StreetStocks,PureStocks
and MidWest Modz.
Gates open at 5 with racing at 8PM sharp.
