Morton, Solberg, Francis Claim Midway Hot Summer Nights Titles

LEBANON, MO (July 30) - The Midway Speedway held its first ever Mid-Summer special event with 3 action packed nights of racing for B-Mods, Factory Stocks and Street Stocks and over $20,000 in purse money.

 When the final checkered flag flew it was Springfield's JC Morton in the B-Mods,Ben Solberg in FactoryStocks and Lebanon's Joe Francis in StreetStocks picking up the winner's prize money,but things were not decided until the closing laps as alot of  great racing action in the championship feature saw several spots change.

 The 3 day event was reduced to a 2 day event after rain hit the speedway Thursday night following Time trials and 1 lap in the FactoryStock qualifying feature.This forced Thursday Nights features to be ran Friday night as a large crowd turned out to see side by side racing action.

 Wed Night the fast qualifiers were Ben Solberg(FactoryStocks) Brian Webster(B-Mods) and Joe Francis(StreetStocks) while the first ever double elimination bracket tournament provided lors of side by side action.Tournament winners were Solberg over donnie Gennings,Webster over Tyler Brown and Francis over Brandon Waters.

 Thursday nights time trials saw fast time go to Solberg,Webster and Francis while the qualifying features ran on Friday evening to start the action went to Sundance Keepper(FactoryStocks),Brian Webster and Micheal Stake(B-Mods) and Joe Francis(StreetStocks)Heat race winners Friday night were Derek Brown and Ben Solberg(FactoryStocks), Wes Long and Eric Tinderholt(Modifieds) and Joe Francis and Jack Hamer)StreetStocks).This set the features for the championship events to determine the overall champions.

 The FactoryStock feature saw Derek Brown grab the early lead from his pole spot only to see the feature red flagged as 2008 Track Champion Tim Petty had an axel break taking him into the turn 1 wall as Donnie Gennings got caught-up also.Gennings went to the pits to make repairs and continued.Going into the final feature Sundance Keepper was only 5 points behind Solberg and needed to finish 3 spots better to claim the $2,000 first place money.On the restart,Brown stayed glues through the middle of the corners grabbing the early lead.Factory rookie driver Tim Jones moved into second place and began to close up on Brown while Solberg,Tyson Troutman and Keepper were battling.The yellow waved on lap 7 as Troutman came to a halt in turn 4.On the restart, Jones closed up on Brown as Keepper found the high groove to his liking and moved around Solberg to take third place.With Brown leading,Jones and Keepper battled side by side as Keepper grabbed second place on lap 10 and began his march forward while Solberg fell to fourth place.Keepper closed-in on Brown until lap 12 when Jones moved around Kepper as Solberg and Gennnigs battled hard.Brown would grab the feature win with Jones,Keepper,Solberg and Gennings in the top 5 as Solberg just nipped Keepper to claim the overall standings.

 The Modifeds rolled out with JC Morton driving a GM 602 Crate motor detting on the pole with Micheal Stake beside him.Morton went into the championship feature only 9 points behind Webster as Webster struggled in his heat race and started 11th in the feature event as Tony Jackson Jr,Mike Striegel,Tyler Brown,Sean williams,Stake and Eric Tinderholt were all in the chase also.Morton grabbed the early lead as Stake went to the top of the racetrack as the young drivers went side by side as Wes Long,Tinderholt,Tyler Brown and Jackson Jr followed closely.Caution waved on lap 4 as Lake Ozark B-Mod point leader Josh Woody slowed with a flat tire.Woody changed and rejoined the rear of the field.On the restart,Stake went upstairs again as Morton and Stake were side by side as Wes Long began to slow-up with Tinderholt moving into third place followed by Brown,Jackson Jr and track point leader Wayne Graybeal while point leader Webster had moved into 8th place.Lap 6 would change the entire outcome of the chase as Sean Williams,Chris Morelock,and Ted Ballinger got together in turn 4 with Webster getting caught-up also.Williams and Webster's night ended while Ballinger and Morelock returned after repairs.On the restart,Morton and Stake again went wheel to wheel as the $1500 to win points chase was wide open.Tinderholt moved into third and was gaining on the lead duo while Tyler Brown,Jackson Jr,Mike Striegel and Shawn Strong followed along with Woody.On lap 10,Brown moved around Tinderholt to grab third place while Stake was still battling Morton.On lap 11 the 3rd and final yellow waved as Tony Jackson Jr driving Lonnie Henderson's Modified this weekend went sideways coming out of turn 4 while battling Tinderholt and Brown for position.On the final restart,Morton kept smooth in the middle of the track and held on to take the feature event over Stake but also claimed the points championship ..Stake followed in the feature with Brown,Tinderholt and Striegel following as Shawn Strong was perhaps the fastest car in the closing laps working the top side.Stake would grab the overall 2nd place finish worth $1,000 to the team after going into the final night 8th in the standings. Brown,Striegel, and Tinderholt completed the final five in the chase.

 The StreetStock feature event had track point leader Joe Francis and Rodney Yost brought the field to the green with Francis taking the early lead and Yost following close behind.Brandon Waters moved around Jack Hamer to grab the third spot.Francis was holding a slim 3 car length lead over Yost heading into the final laps when the leaders started to get into traffic.Yost pulled even with Francis as the duo battled side by side for 4 laps.Taking the white flag,Yost used the traffic to his advantage and managed to moved around Francis as Francis pulled even going down the backstretch.Yost moved to the inside and again traffic was in front of the leaders.Yost would nip Francis at the line to take the feature win,but Francis would claim the $1,000 to win event in the final standings as Yost despite rolling his car We night finished second in the final standings.Following Yost and Francis to the checkered flag were Brandon Waters,Jack Hamer, and Mike Piercy.

 In support Action for Hot summer nights-Veteran JC Newell grabbed the early lead and held off a late race surge from point leader Ben Newell to claim the win in the Sportsman feature while in PureStock action it was point leader Kory Barker being declared the winner after the top 3 finishers all failed to pass tech following the feature event.Lebanon's Matt young grabbed second place followed by Shorty Doublin.14 year old JC Newell claimed the feature win in the MidWest mod class.

 Go-Kart Jr 1 class racers performed for the large crowd Friday night in a 20 lap feature on the fast Midway go-kart track getting to showcase their talents as Mason Green made an outside pass move on leader Colby Lathrop on lap 15 and then had to withstand a late surge from Lathrop to grab the win.

 Racing racing continues Friday night Aug 6th with points races for all classes featuring the Central Bank FactoryStocks,Energy Company Modifieds,Coldwell Banker StreetStocks,PureStocks,Sportsman and MidWest Modz.Racing will start at 8PM.
