SEDALIA, MO (August 2) - Time has come for the ‘Historic Half Mile’ that is Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Missouri to roar back to life once again for another action-packed night of high speed dirt track racing.  This Friday night, August 6 marks the return of the Subway Late Models and W-K Chevrolet Modifieds to the track and in what is sure to be one of the most talked about events of the year, local law enforcement personnel will be on hand for the first-ever ‘Battle of the Badges’ race.

Previous feature winners in the late models on the half mile this year include Adrian’s David Turner and Archie’s Matt Johnson.  With travelling series racing elsewhere this weekend, the door is wide open for drivers in the Greater Kansas City area and beyond to come away with a big-money victory Friday night and add their name to the stellar list of previous late model winners at the speedway.  Others expected to contend include Larry Clawson, Chris Smyser, Bryon Allison, Randy McGraw, Shorty Acker, and Dave Meyer.  ULMA drivers will have the opportunity to earn ULMA association points this weekend and the race will serve as one more shot at tuning up their machines in preparation for the ULMA fair week race later in the month.  Brett Wood and Jon Binning are ULMA drivers expected to run strong this weekend in preparation for the fair race.  Additional drivers that have raced at the speedway this year include Alan Vaughn, Dustin Walker, Bob Cummings, Zach Goulden, and Will Vaught.  The late models will race for $2,000 to win this weekend and $150 just to start the main event!

In the W-K Chevrolet Modified division all eyes will be on Dustin Boney of Kansas City, MO to see if he shows up to try and continue his dominance of a-mod racing this season.  Boney has already been to victory lane at the speedway, including his most recent win in front of a packed grandstand just a few weeks ago.  Although Boney will surely be in contention for the win if he makes the haul, there are plenty of additional stand-out drivers up for the challenge including the surprise of the year, Austin Siebert, who has been the most consistent modified runner at the half mile this season.  Jason Thompson is another man to watch in the modifieds as is James McMillin, Shad Badder, Rick Beebe, and Aaron Poe.   Co-promoter Jason Bodenhamer recently took over wheelman duties for an a-modified team and he will also be gunning for the win this weekend.  So far this year, Mark Dotson, Curt Potter, Jimmy Dowell, Buddy Thompson, Rick and Sonny Kimberling, Dave Meyer, Danny Crane, Howard Hall, Daulton Greven, and Kevin Blackburn have also ran strong in the modified ranks.  The modifieds race for $1,000 to win and $100 to start the main event this weekend.

There are no entry fees or registration fees for any competing car this weekend at the speedway.  Note:  mention of driver name in press release does not guarantee driver appearance in any competing division.  Pit Gates will open at 3 p.m. with a special test & tune session for “Coppers” only beginning at 6 p.m.  General admission gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 and racing getting underway at 7:30.  General admissions for adults is $18, seniors and military w/I.D. $15, kids six to twelve $9, children five and under are free; all pit passes this weekend are $30.  Badge wearing law-enforcement personnel may display their badges upon entering the grandstands and save $5 on their admission ticket.

The ‘Battle of the Badges’ is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated events of the year for good reason, there are already several teams pre-registered for this event including a range of drivers from St. Louis to Kansas City to St. Joseph, to Springfield and all points in between!  Bring the whole family out and enjoy something a little different at the track as well as take in the fantastic action of the late models and modifieds.

To enter a car in the race or to obtain general race information visit www.missouristatefairspeedway.com  or call (573) 690-0443 or (816) 522-8343.  This unique race will feature law enforcement officers from across the state of Missouri battling it out to raise money for the Special Olympics.  Each officer will be driving a custom-painted and sponsored Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor contending for bragging rights and the title of Top Cop.  Bring the whole family out for a great show and help cheer for your local law enforcement team!
