Stake Into Championship Chase at Midway With Modified Feature
As Jones Grabs First Ever Factory Feature
LEBANON, Mo. (August 6) - Lebanon High School graduate Micheal Stake was
able to finally shake the Midway jinx for 2010 as the 2nd year driver
grabbed the lead at the start and withstood several challanges from Shawn
Strong to capture the Energy Company modified feature win and vaulted
himself into the championship chase among controversy between the top 2 in
the point standings.
The Modified feature saw Shawn Strong and Charlie Gentile bring the field to
the green as Stake and points runner-up Tyler Brown in row 2.Strong jumped
to the opening lead, but Stake wasted no time in moving on the low groove to
take the lead on lap 1 with Strong staying close.Behind the lead duo, point
leader Wayne Graybeal,Josh Woody and Tyler Brown were in a tight battle for
third place.Up front Stake and Strong were showing the crowd outstanding car
control along with side by side racing as the duo battled. The caution flew
on lap 3 as a single car spin bunched the field-up.On the restart Strong
tried both the top groove and bottom groove as Stake stayed glued to the
lower lane as Woody,Graybeal and Brown still battled. The long green run saw
Stake and Strong wheel back and forth as Strong tok the lead on lap 7 only
to see Stake back in front the following lap. While this battle kept
going,Woody moved his car around Graybeal on lap 11 and started to close-up
the ground on the leaders.graybeal and Brown were battling hard as the top
two in the track points were exchanging sheet metal. On lap 13 Graybeal and
Brown got together and continued their battle during the caution. Both
drivers were sent to the pits for the rest of the feature and Disqualified
for the evening with no points or money for unsportsman like conduct. On the
restart, strong tried to make a late move but Stake held on to grab his first
win of the season as Strong,Woody,Gentile and Andrew Smith completed the top
5.With Stake's victory and the results of Graybeal and Brown,Stake has
vaulted himself into the championship chase.
The Central Bank FactoryStocks saw a first time winner at Midway as
FactoryStock rookie Tim Jones drove a flawless event leading all 15 laps in
grabbing his first ever FactoryStock feature win.The feature saw Jones and
Matt Wilson bring the field to the green flag as point leader Tyson Troutman
shot to the inside of Jones on the opening lap while Donnie Miller stayed
close behind.Troutman pulled up high as the caution flew for debris on the
track.Troutman went to the pits and returned at the rear of the field. On the
restart Jones again jumped to the lead while behind jones was a tight battle
between Miller,Criag Danuser, former champion Dylan Keepper and points
runner-up Ben Solberg.Up front Jones was flawless driving a perfect race
tonight leaving Miller,Solberg and Danuser to battle it out for second
place.Jones grabbed the win as Miller held oof repeated challanges from
Solberg to grab second place while Solberg,Danuser and Keepper completed the
top 5.
The StrretStock feature saw plenty of action as Billy Waters jumped to the
early lead with Kevin Forshey following closely while Monk Barker and Jack
Hamer were side by side.Waters looking for his first ever Midway feature win
was keeping the car glued in the middle of the track while Forshey kept
going to the high side as Barker was joining the group on the low
groove. With Waters leading current point leader Joe Francis who started 9th
tonight joined the lead pack and made a 3 wide attempt on the frontstretch
on lap 7 between Barker,Forshey and Hamer while Rodney Yost was moving on
the top groove.Lap 8 changed the race pace as Waters while leading got a
little to loose and spun around as Francis made the pass on Forshey. This put
Francis in the lead with monk Barker now running second as
Yost,Hamer,Brandon Waters and the field followed. With Francis turning laps
on the top groove,Barker who was involved in a bad wreck last weekend was
gaining lap after lap on Francis as Yost was making time up both high and
low.On lap 11,Barker was about to make a bid for the lead on Francis when
the yellow came out for Forshey. On the restart,Francis got the jump as Yost
began his move forward but started to slow-up in the final laps.Francis
would go on to grab the win with Barker,Brandon Waters,a fast moving Billy
Waters and Hamer completing the top 5.
The PureStock feature was a wild event as Robert Doublin grabbed the opening
lead over brother Shorty Doublin and Adam Lowrance. With Doublin setting a
fast pace, point leader Kory Barker was quietly moving through the field from
his 11th starting spot as he moved around Elijah Keepper on lap 2 into the
top 3.The caution waved for debris with Doublin in the lead.On the
restart,Barker wasted no time in moving to the low side and around both
Doublin and Lowrance while Keepper was moving to the extreme top groove and
into second place on lap 5 and began to close up the gap.Rob White who was
involved in an earlier incident was making up some ground quickly and took
advantage of second place Keeppers problems on lap 9 to move into second
place.Up front Barker was gone leaving White and Brandon Knudtson to battle
for second place.Knudtson made contact with White on lap 10 as White went
spinning and gathered it back up.Barker would claim the win with
Knudtson, early leader Robert Doublin,White,Robert MvGinnis lady driver Stacy
Burns following.Knudtson was dropped to the last car on the lead lap for the
incident of him and White because of the race still under Green. The final
