Cheevers Top Midway Mod Event
LEBANON, MO (August 27) - Colt Cheevers got back into his winning form as
the hard charger from Macks Creek record a second place and third place
finish to take home the $550 payday in the B-Mod event held Friday night at
The Lebanon MidwaySpeedway.Thriller Graphics in Richland added extra money
to the top 3 finishers.
The Energy Company Modified action sawJC Morton capturing an action packed
1st qualifying feature as 4 different leaders took a shot at the win.Fast
qualifier Brian Webster would lead laps 3-7 only to see his chance end up in
turn 4 as he and front running Michael Stake got together.Morton using a
602GM Crate motor kept on the top groove the entire distance with
Cheevers,Tyler Brown,Eric Tinderholt and Ted Ballinger following.
The second feature was inverted with lead lap cars from feature number 1 as
3 wide action right off the bat with Bill Schaar making his first ever
Modified start grabbed the opening lead with points leader Stake right
behind him.Stake would check away from the field leaving great racing behind
him.Eric Tinderholt got around Schaar on lap 8 after side by side racing
early on to move into second place with Cheevers moving from 10th to
third.Stake grabbed the victory in feature number 2 with
Tinderholt,Cheevers,Brown,and Morton following.
Cheevers consistant finishes netted him the overall winner as Tinderholt and
Morton completed the top 3.
Central Bank FactoryStock action would have side by side hard racing action
as Modified chassis builder Scotty Allen grab the opening lead for two
laps.Current speedway point leader Ben Solberg shot to the top groove on lap
3 and took the lead as Allen worked the low side of the track while Tim
Jones and Tyson Troutman battled along with former champions Tim Petty and
Dylan Keeper.A late race caution turn the feature around as Allen's Car seem
to needed the longer green run.Solberg kept running the top side as allen
turned up the heat in the final 2 laps.Solberg took home the win with
Allen,Jones,Keepper and Troutman completing the top 5.
The PureStocks ran a special 30 lap event with some added money as 17 cars
took the opening green as Elijah Keepper moved the Sherriff's 911 special to
the early lead.With cautions counting early,The Pures had a few single car
spins as Micheal Mauzey was applying pressure to the leader Keepper along
with Matt Young and Shorty Doublin.After lap 15,the feature went solid grren
flag racing as early continders Mauzey and Doublin both pitted on lap 16
after a restart eliminating their hopes for victory.With Keepper running the
top groove,point leader Kory Barker quietly worked his way from 11th to
challange Keepper.Matt young and battling early spinner Matt Pilant for
posistion while 16th starter Robert Doublin was coming fast.After a 5 lap
side by side battle between Keepper and Barker,Barker made the low side
stick and took over the lead on lap 23.Keepper worked lapped traffic and
with 2 laps to go started to reel-in the race leader.Barker withstood the
late race surge and held on for the win with Keepper,Matt Pilant,16th
starter Robert Doublin and early contender and pole setter Matt Young
completing the top 5. 9 cars finished on the lead lap with 15 of the 17
starters finishing the distance.15 year old Justin Allen making his first
ever Midway start started 17th and charged to 6th place Monk Barker grabbed
the opening lead in the Coldwell Banker StreetStock feature and was looking
to record his first ever win.Rodney Yost battled beside Barker early and
after whhel to wheel action,it was Yost grabbing the lead on lap 12 to
capture the victory with Barker,a fast moving Trevor Ellingson,Billy Waters
and last weeks winner Jack Hamer completing the top 5.
Veteran racer JC Newell overtook pacesetter Clinton Betts on lap 3 and never
looked back in capturing the Rocky Ridge Construction Sportsman feature.Sam
Petty again showed a strong run in this class as he finished in the
runner-up spot with last weeks winner Bradley McDowell,early leader Betts
and MidWest Modz point leader little JC Newel rounding out the top 5.
Joplin's Bobby Gough made the 2 hour trip to Midway worth his wild as he
grabbed the opening lead and withstood a mid race caution and challange from
JC Newell in the MidWest Mod feature following the lead duo to the line was
last weeks winner Rich Reynolds and former FactoryStock champion James Ellis
making his first start of the season.
Action goes into high gear next Friday night as LateModels return to the
Midway as the Show-Me Racin Series rolls into the Ozarks action
track.Current Series Point leader and defending champion Justin Wells head a
star-studded field of drivers such as Ken "The Flying
Farmer"Essary,Lebanon's Brandon B-Mac McCormick,Former midway Champion Tony
Jackson Jr,Arkansas Larry Campbell,Series points runner-up Randy Zimmerman
of Fort Scott,Kaansas,Dwight Neihoff,Darrell and Dustin
Mooneyham,Springfield's Chris Morelock,Midway first ever Latemodel winner
Shane Essary and many more for the Larry Phillips Birthday Bash.Action will
also feature points races in the Central Bank FactoryStocks,Energy Company
Modifieds,Coldwell banker StreetStocks and the exciting PureStocks.
