Karrick, Clancy, Wood, and Ziegler Drive to Wins at CMS!
By Alan Miller - CMS Announcer/PR
WARRENSBURG, MO (July 16, 2011) - The hot temperatures added to the weekly
challenge for fans and drivers at Central Missouri Speedway’s action
presented by Cliff Harris Warrensburg Ford and Chrysler Dodge Jeep. After
flying under the double checkers, two new winning drivers entered the
Waterloo Storage Products victory lane. Each feature produced some
entertaining action for the loyal race fans when Tim Karrick from Basehor,
Kansas claimed his first CMS win in the modifieds this year, Steve Clancy
out of Odessa took home the win in the ULMA late models, Brian Ziegler from
Bates City in street stocks and the veteran driver, Bobby Russ Wood from
Rayville for his first feature victory at CMS in the b-modifieds.
Starting the CMS weekly points racing action were the Brooks Automotive
B-Modified drivers for two heat races with 13 cars registered. The two heat
winners were Jacob Ebert in heat one for his seventh heat win and Ethan
Isaacs in heat two for his third win. The b-modified 15- lap feature event
was first on the track after intermission when Wood led the event early on
with Nic Bennett working a higher line in second. A clean race for the
b-modified drivers was clearly evident with a quick pace in the feature.
Bennett battled with Ebert at the midpoint of the feature. Wood maintained
the lead into lapped traffic and drove into victory lane for his first
feature win at CMS with Ebert placing a solid second. Bennett stayed sturdy
and finished in third with Ethan Isaacs, fourth, Chad Staus for his best
finish in fifth, and Bobby Raybourn sixth.
The Expressways Food Shop, Eickleberry Concrete, Brooks Automotive Street
Stock drivers worked on their machines this week to try to take on points
leader, Brian Ziegler for two event heat qualifiers. Bryce McMillin won his
second heat of the year with Herb Dannar grabbing heat two for his second
heat win this season. Bryce McMillin and Dannar started on the front row
with Ziegler making a statement early on in the feature with moves on the
high-side into the front of the field. Several mechanical issues in the
middle of the race caused the feature to slow some, but Ziegler continued to
pace the field. McMillin challenged him on several re-starts, but could not
make anything stick. Ziegler used the high side most of the night and hung
on to the lead and gained his fourth feature win at CMS. McMillin posted a
strong runner-up finish with Devin Irvin coming home with a strong third
place finish from a twelfth-place starting spot, Nate Barnes was fourth,
followed by Scotty Dukes with a solid fifth and Michael Mullins sixth.
Next up were the ULMA Late Models for two heats. In the Bodee’s Race Bodies,
Rod End Supply first heat, Steve Clancy won for his first heat victory just
ahead Jason Bodenhamer. Bob Test grabbed the B&D Transmission heat number
two for his second heat win. Early on in the All-American Auto 20-lap main
event, Clancy used a steady low line and put his car into the early lead.
After a spin in turn four, several drivers including Test, Trace Westling
and Kevin Coyne tangled. After the re-start, Brett Wood took a scary flip
over turn four but eventually landed on his wheels. Wood was okay, but the
car suffered serious damage. Test also broke his front end from contact with
the uke tire on the low side and headed back into the pits. Clancy then had
a classic battle with Bodenhamer for the remaining laps hanging onto the low
line with Bodenhamer attempting every trick in the book to work his way past
him. At the finish line, Clancy held on after a late race re-start and made
an impressive run picking up his third feature win in a row. Bodenhamer
grabbed second after several attempts to gain the lead, Lane Ehlert moved
smartly up into third, Jon Binning was fourth, Chad Clancy was fifth with
Dave Mosley in his first visit to CMS this season in sixth.
The modified drivers had another tough field of 21 cars checked in for
racing with three heats to set the starting grid. The three heat winners
included Jason Bodenhamer in Beebe Heating & Cooling heat number one for his
second heat win and with the checkered flag flying, Tim Karrick won the
Seeburg Mufflers second heat for his third victory. In the Cornerstone
Agency third heat, Terry Schultz won his fifth race. Karrick and Bodenhamer
led the field to the green flag for the 25-lap main event. After several
re-starts at the beginning of the feature, Karrick and Bodenhamer worked
hard for the top spot until Karrick gained the advantage on lap one. The
modifieds had a rough night of racing with several yellows for various spins
and mechanical problems throughout the race. Karrick finally settled into
the lead after Rick Beebe challenged for the early lead but ultimately had
to go into the hot-pit lane for fluid leaking from his car. Karrick held off
Curt Rackers and Schultz in hot pursuit. Karrick held on and claimed the
feature win for his first CMS victory celebration this season. Rackers had
his best CMS finish with a strong second place finish with Schultz hanging
onto third. Marrant climbed back up to fourth after an early race caution
caused him to restart at the tail of the field, Jake Richards looked solid
in fifth as Bodenhamer finished sixth.
Each week the pit gates open at 4:30 p.m., front and back-side grandstand
admission open at 5, and hot-laps begin at 7 with racing at 7:30. For
