Lucas Oil Speedway Summer Shootout
WHEATLAND, MO (July 28, 2011) - On the heels of the largest race in the
history of the Lucas Oil MLRA, the series will be back in action this
Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway. This will be the 14th standalone
race held at the Speedway since 2006. The past winners list is diverse
with Terry Phillips and Jeremy Payne each winning on three separate
occasions. No other driver has one more than one race. Mount Vernon,
Iowa's Chad Simpson won the most recent stop back in April. Other past
winners include, Justin Wells, Jack Sullivan, Denny Woodworth, Mark
Burgtorf, Al Purkey and Dave Eckrich. Some of those winners have other
commitments this weekend, but others are expected to attend.
Lucas Oil MLRA action will only be a portion of the action held this
weekend in Wheatland, MO. Friday - Sunday will also see the running of
the Inaugural Diamond Drag Boat Nationals, sanctioned by the Lucas Oil
Drag Boat Racing Series. Friday will feature a test and tune. Saturday
the boats will qualify and eliminations are Sunday.
Saturday, during intermission, Bigfoot, with driver Dan Runte will have
a car crushing exhibition. Also, Mike Wiskus will have Lucas Oil Air
Show performances on both Saturday and Sunday.
Al Purkey comes into the event with the series points lead. He took his
second provisional of the season at the Silver Dollar Nationals, after
engine trouble on qualifying night placed him the back of a B Main. He
raced from 27th to 12th in the feature. John Anderson took advantage of
Kyle Berck's broken Rocker Arm on his engine to jump up to the second
position in points. Anderson finished 15th and is still looking for his
first MLRA win at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks.
On Saturday, the gates will open at 7:00 AM, with Qualifying slated to
begin at 9:00 AM. Saturday tickets are $25 for Adults and $20 for
Seniors age 62 and up as well as active Military with ID. Youth ages
6-15 years are just $10, with kids 5 and under FREE. Admission to
Saturday's Drag Boat event will also admit the ticket holder to the
Diamond of Dirt Tracks for The Lucas Oil MLRA event on Saturday night.
The late model touring series will hit the speedway at 7:00 PM. Saturday
night's race is presented by Buffalo Prairie Dental. Admission for those
seeking only the Saturday Lucas Oil MLRA show will be $20. The front
gates will open at 5 PM for the Saturday evening show. Any pit pass
purchased on Saturday will be good for complimentary admission to the
Lucas Oil Drag Boat qualifying on Saturday only.
