Looney in Victory Lane at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO (July 30, 2011) - Thirty-nine cars were on hand for Saturday
evening's Lucas Oil MLRA event at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. Brad
Looney visited victory lane for the third time this season in Lucas Oil MLRA
action, and the first time ever at Lucas Oil Speedway. "Everything just kind
of worked out tonight," said Looney following the race. This was his first
$3,000 win in a chassis he built a couple of years ago. Looney sat on the
pole, but it was Justin Wells who jumped out to an early advantage. Wells
led until just past lap 20 when Looney got around him. "I knew I had to make
a move soon, when I found something up there in three and four getting off
the corner. I got too him and made the move. It all worked out."
A large crowd packed the grandstands for the Summer Shootout. "This is such
a nice facility. What Lucas Oil does is just amazing. To be a part of it,
and to win it with these boat races going on is really good," added Looney.
Jesse Stovall raced from ninth to second in only his third race out in a new
Moyer Victory Circle. He now has three runner up finishes this season in
Lucas Oil MLRA competition. "We're learning every time we come on the race
track with this new car. I made a quick call to Billy Moyer right before we
started. He told me a couple of adjustments. He made the car what it was
tonight."
John Anderson in the Shop Quick #2, came from sixth to third and scored his
second best finish of the season. "It was a great race," commented Anderson.
"You could move, but you couldn't quite pass real easy. You had to wait till
a guy made a mistake, and the guys up front don't make many." Mark Burgtorf
had a solid night, winning the opening heat race and finishing fourth. 2009
Lucas Oil MLRA Rookie of the Year Matt Johnson had a great run advancing
from twelfth to fifth.
Jeff Roth was the night's hard charger advancing from twenty-third to
thirteenth. Point leader Al Purkey broke an axle while running sixth, ending
his night early. The series will sit idle until August 12th and 13th with
the runningof the Annual "King of the Hill" at Junction Motor Speedway in
McCool Junction, Nebraska.
