Awards Banquet
for Moberly's 24 Raceway, version 2005
Ron Lueck - Track Spokesman Moberly, Mo. (Jan.
18, 2006) - A great group of racecar drivers, car owners and fans
came out last Saturday night to attend the dinner and the
end-of-season Awards Banquet for Moberly's 24 Raceway, version 2005.
Right at 250 auto racing enthusiats enjoyed some good food, courtesy
of Renzelmann's Kre'ative Katering, then the awards and some dancing
later at the downtown Moberly Municipal Auditorium.
The large and impressive trophies were given out to these seven
class champions for the 2005 season: Rick Thompson of Clark for the
final season of Thunder Trucks; David Rafferty, all the way from
Independence for the NEMO Dwarf Cars; David Lorton of Moberly in the
4 cyl. Hornets; Clinton Dale, Moberly, in the Hobby Stock class;
Jeff Creed, a repeat winner from Cairo in the Sportsman division;
Bob Woodrow of Perry for the B-modifieds; and David Holder of
Clarence in the A-modified class. Congratulations go to all top ten
trophy winners of each racing class!
In addition, an award for the Most Improved Driver went to Hobby
Stock driver Tom Elsen of Clarence. The Hard-Luck Award was
presented to Steve Hisle, Liberty for his tough times in the 01-car,
also of the Hobby class. This year's Sportsmanship Award went once
again to popular modified driver, Kelly Smith of Kirksville. And the
Most Valuable Pit Person award was given to Rebecca Bergfield, wife
of Alan and both of Harrisburg, who didn't let a little thing like
"having a baby" get in the way of attending the races this season.
These awards were nominated and voted on by fellow drivers, and are
a great compliment to all of the clientele of 24 Raceway.
There was a slight halt in the progression of awards being given
out, while the Hornet season champ, David Lorton, followed through
on a promise he made. If he went on to win the championship, Lorton
had voluntarily promised his ponytail of some 12 inch length, to be
shorn at the Banquet and donated to Locks of Love. This cutting was
done by his hairstylist, Tracy from Macon's Cut Above, and will be
donated to the non-profit organization for use by children, 18 years
old and younger, suffering from medical hair loss.
Track Force Racing Supplies of Kirksville, brought a race tire as
well as a racing wheel for give-aways, and was among the many
providers of door prizes. A very nice #24 Jeff Gordon/Dupont Nascar
jacket, courtesy of Pepsi, was won by Wayne Hartman, and the grand
prize of a 3 night stay at the ski area of Winter Park, Colorado was
awarded to B-modified driver, Gary Wilson of Wilson's Hot Rod Shop,
located outside Holliday, Mo. Now, if only he and wife Diane can
learn some skiing techniques while they're out there,,,,,
The 2006 season will kick off with a practice session for the
Saturday afternoon of April 1 and again on Sunday afternoon April 2.
Pit passes for this Noon to dusk time will be $10.00 per person per
day and grandstand viewing is free. Last year saw some 90 cars show
up to test & tune on the Saturday alone. We at 24 Raceway, welcome
the participation in spending the Saturday and Sunday afternoon
dialing in your racecars. Thanks to all the
employees and fans for a great 2005 season and here's hoping for a
better season yet to come. Watch for more
scheduling info to come on the website of
