24 Raceway, Moberly MO June 17 results & promo for June 24
Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO
MOBERLY, Mo. (June 17, 2006) - After the short rain came through Moberly near
the end of qualifying and thereby delaying the evening's events at 24 Raceway,
Vance Wilson returned to the winner's circle. But not before Curt Potter caused
him to reassess his race tactics. Early on, it looked as if Boonville's Potter
might just take the A-modified race last Saturday night from the season points
leader, Wilson. Potter was driving hard for the win, but in the end, Potter's
car had a bit too much smoke of the "wrong type" and had to settle for another
2nd, his 5th of the last 6, as Wilson got win No. 7 for the season at at 24
Raceway.
In the Moberly Motors B-Modified race, season points leader Bob Woodrow started
back a ways but took the high lane to pick off the guys in front of him. By the
time both Kelly Smith and Chris Leathers moved up to use that lane too, it was
too late. Woodrow was up high and in front to stay, getting his 5th win for the
season. And Clinton Dale backed up his win two weeks ago, in a hard-fought race
with Pete Agee to get win No. 2 in the Sportsman class. Some paint swapping and
great racing took place in this one.
Next week at 24 Raceway, before the feature races of the regular five classes
of: both A & B modifieds, Sportsman, Hobby Stock and the 4 cly. Hornets, there
will be a "Duke-fest" taking place at 24 Raceway. Did you know the "Dukes of
Hazzard" cars still thrive in Cairo, MO? Four vehicles reminiscent of that great
show, including the General Lee, Daisy's Jeep, Uncle Jesse's truck and a vintage
police car from the era, will be providing some sort of chase sequence, complete
with the likes of "Luke & Bo" to entertain the crowd at intermission next
weekend, June 24.
A special "thanks" goes out to Race Mart of Memphis, MO for their effort to help
boost the Limited Late Model class at 24 Raceway. Watch for the "Firecracker
Forty" sponsored by L and J Development, Inc. of Moberly, with fireworks to
follow, taking place in 2 weeks on July 1. It's the annual 40-lap A-modified
race paying $1000 to win!
Dirt Track Racing at its Best" happens all season long at 24 Raceway, just three
miles east of Moberly Missouri on Highway 24. A full report by Pam Hassler &
promo is to follow, later Monday 6/19. Adult admission to the grandstand is only
$10, kids are $5 for ages 6 to 12. Rates for the popular Family Pass are $25,
and that includes admission to the grandstands for 2 adults and 3 children, ages
6 to 12. Kids under 6 are always free. Racing starts at 7 p.m. with hot laps at
6:15 following a short drivers' meeting every Saturday night this season.
