Track Chaplain C.B. Riley performed the first ever wedding at
the facility by marrying
Johnna Goodman and Jeff White at 24 Raceway
by: Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway
MOBERLY, MO. (July 22, 2006) - At 24 Raceway, there was another great nite of
racing for this comfortable July 22, but to kick it off, the Moberly racetrack
did something of a first: Track Chaplain C.B. Riley performed the first ever
wedding at the facility by marrying Johnna Goodman and Jeff White. These two,
both of Moberly and a relatives of track employees, decided to use the front
stretch to say the "I do's" in front of the wedding party of about 50 invitees,
along with the attentive crowd in the grandstand. Congratulations are in order
to the new couple, making their home in Moberly, Missouri!
And congratulations go to David Holder for putting on a heck of a performance in
winning the A-modified event in his dual with Vance Wilson, Scotty Roberts and
Curt Potter. Holder led the last 4 laps for his 3rd win this season, after
Wilson crossed the line in front on the first 21 laps. Folks, this was only some
of the really great action taking place on the July 22 features.
In the Moberly Motors B-Modified race, it was Tony Garner finally getting his
first win after over 2 years of getting better with each passing season of seat
time. Garner was successful as the 24 Raceway '03 season champ in the Hornert
class, and then made the move to modifieds in '04. T.J. Criss came all the way
from Oskaloosa, Iowa to take the Sportsman class win for new racecar owner Rand
McKinney. Larry Krog got back to the winner's circle in the Hobby Stock class
after quite some time, in another "first" at 24
Raceway: a carburator restrictor plate race. This was the first of a 3-week race
schedule before the Hobby Stock 25-lap Special to take place on August 12. And,
yes this will be a mandatory restrictor plate race to clear up some of the
carburator issues in this class. Brook Hassler took his heat win and picked up
his 7th win of the '06 season in the Hornet A feature, while 15 year-old Sarah
Woodhurst got the B feature win, allowing her to transfer into the A. Refering
to her new car built by MarSkin Engineering, she has a new motto: "A 15 year old
girl can win in our car, can you?"
Next week, July 29 at 24 Raceway, the regular five classes of A-modifieds,
Moberly Motors B-modifieds, Sportsman, Hobby Stock and the Hornets will be
followed by a Mechanic's Race in B-modified racecars. No weddings are currently
scheduled for this night, so the facility and chaplain are available........
"Dirt Track Racing at its Best" happens all season long at 24 Raceway, just
three miles east of Moberly, Missouri on Highway 24. A complete report by Pam
Hassler, along with a repeated list of the results & promo is to follow on
Monday 7/24. Adult admission to the grandstand will be only $10, with kids at $5
for ages 6 to 12. Rates for that popular Family Pass are $25 and that includes
admission to the grandstands for 2 adults and 3 children, ages 6 to12. Kids
under 6 are always free. Pit Gates will open at 4pm. Pit Pass admission is still
$22. Racing starts at 7 p.m. with hot laps at 6:15 pm following a short drivers'
meeting every Saturday night this season.
