Kevin Blackburn, a third generation racer from Fulton, picked
up his 1st feature win ever
by: Ron Lueck
MOBERLY, MO. (Aug. 5, 2006) - In a very lively race with 13 A-modifieds at 24
Raceway, Kevin Blackburn, a third generation racer from Fulton, picked up his
1st feature win ever, and was glad to do it at Moberly against some very strong
competition. Curt Potter started from the front row, with brother Steve on the
outside, and led the first 17 laps while fending off his brother, A-mod points
leader Vance Wilson and Blackburn. But the 16 year-old Blackburn was not to be
denied in making the pass on the 18th lap and holding off these hard-chargers
for an extremely exciting race to watch. And, yes Curt Potter got yet another
2nd place finish, his 9th this season at 24 Raceway, and was followed across the
line by Wilson, Steve Potter and then Chad Parsons for the top five. Then, in
the final event of the evening, the same car was entered into the A-mod
Mechanic's Race by Paul Old, also of Fulton, and he took it to the winner's
circle once more.
With two race-stopping red flags, Kelly Smith led all the laps in the Moberly
Motors B-Modified race and returned to the winner's cirlce after a long time
away. Steve Robinson had his best finish for the year at 2nd in a fairly new
racecar, and Craig Spegal came in 3rd for a second week in a row.
Cairo's Jeff Creed smacked the turn 4 wall fairly hard in his heat race, but got
the Sportsman car back into shape for the feature, starting the race from the
last position. Season points leader Creed apparently had the car to beat, as he
weaved through the pack to grab his 4th win on the 2006 season at 24 Raceway. In
the Hobby's final race before next week's 25 lap Hobby Stock Special, Clinton
Dale got his win #5 for the season over last week's winner, Larry Krog. And
another Cairo driver, Rich Moret, got his 3rd win at the Moberly track this
season in the 4 cylinder Hornet feature.
Next week, August 12 at 24 Raceway, four of the regular classes of A-modifieds,
Moberly Motors B-modifieds, Sportsman and the 4 cylinder Hornets will be joined
by this year's presentation of the Hobby Stock Special. This will be a 25 lap
non-points race and these Hobby Stock class racecars will all be required to use
restrictor plates under the carbs. A live remote from KWWR will be on site from
5pm to 7pm with entries taken for a qualifier to be drawn in the "Redneck Truck
Give-away" being sponsored by Bentz GM Country of Macon. From 5 to 6pm, entries
will be accepted at the pit gate area, and then from 6 to 7pm, the sign-ups will
be happening at the grandstand ticket booth, before entering 24 Raceway's
facilities. Driver interviews will be taking place for the first hour at the pit
gate entrance during the broadcast. A drawing for an awarding of a key, possibly
fitting the brand new 2006 Chevy pick-up, will be announced at the Track later
in the evening.
"Dirt Track Racing at its Best" happens all season long at 24 Raceway, just
