The August 12th's big event at 24 Raceway, the Hobby Stock
Special with its 25 laps, had everything the race fan could ask for!

MOBERLY, MO. (Aug. 12, 2006) - The August 12th's big event at 24
Raceway, the Hobby Stock Special with its 25 laps, had everything the race fan
could ask for in four leader changes, only two or three cautions and a good
one-two race down to the end. This included an action-packed 3-car spin out on
the front stretch in front of the grandstands late in the race with no injuries.
Josh Langhammer and Alan Hultz each led a couple of laps early on, with
Huntsville's Kevin Renzelmann coming in to lead laps 5 thru 8. Renzelmann tried
to hold off Mike Wolfe, but fell to 2nd on lap 9 and stayed close the rest of
the race. Wolfe had a good lead by a couple of car lengths, but that last
caution late in the race bunched up the field for a green-white-checkers run to
the finish. Madison's Wolfe still had enough to hold off a hard-charging
Renzelmann for the $400 win in this non-points race. Larry Krog and Clinton Dale
competed just as hard for 3rd with Krog getting it across the line, followed by
Dale and Chad Walter coming in 5th ahead of Tom Elsen. In the end, the top five
finishers had to go through extensive tech checking of their engines and all
those checked were in complience with the rules. A very good race for the fans
and participants all the way around. To make it a really successful night for
the Renzelmann family, wife Pam was the key qualifier in the "Redneck Truck
Giveaway" drawing for one of the keys, being sponsored by Bentz GM Country of
Macon. Congratulations to all the drivers on for making it a solid performance
in the annual Hobby Stock Special!
In the A-modified race, all the other 12 entries tried to keep Fulton's young
Kevin Blackburn from a repeat of his win here last week, but the winner of the
2nd heat earlier in the evening, backed up that first ever win with his 2nd win
on the season, both at 24 Raceway. Three-time winner, Dave Holder couldn't get
within 2 car-lengths of Blackburn late in the race and finished as the
runner-up. Boonville's Potter brothers ran strong up near the front for the
entire race and finished 3rd (Curt) and 4th (Steve). These two also seem
determined to get to the winner's circle yet this season at 24 Raceway.
Bob Woodrow of Perry got his new racecar looking more like the old one (which
was wrecked two weeks ago in the mechanic's race) with some paint and # schemes
and had a solid performance in grabbing the heat win and his first feature win
since July 15th in the Moberly Motors B-Modified race. This came at a good time
as his lead in the 2006 season points had dwindled to only 10 over Tony Garner.
And while Woodrow got his 8th win of the year, Porter Collins, in his newly
aquired racecar, picked up his best finish coming in at 2nd over Chuck Melloway.
The Sportsman class saw Clinton Dale hold off Pete Agee and season points leader
Jeff Creed in a tight race for the 1-2-3 finish. And Columbia's Brooke Hassler
grabbed season win #8 in the 4 clyinder Hornet A-feature to go with a B-feature
win at 24 Raceway, maintaining his commanding season points lead.
Next week, August 12 at 24 Raceway, will be the annual "Back to School Night"
with the five regular classes of A-modifieds, Moberly Motors B-modifieds,
Sportsman, Hobby Stock and the 4 cylinder Hornets. "Dirt Track Racing at its
Best" happens all season long at 24 Raceway, just three miles east of Moberly,
Missouri on Highway 24. Look for a more complete report by Pam Hassler, along
with a repeated list of the results & promo following on Monday 8/14. Adult
admission to the grandstand is $10, with students admitted free with a valid
school I.D. Kids under 6 are always free. Pit Gates will open at 4pm. Pit Pass
admission is still $22. Racing starts at 7 p.m. with hot laps at 6:15 pm
following the drivers' meeting every Saturday night this season.
