PLENTY OF PRACTICE DAYS SCHEDULED AT 24 RACEWAY, ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE NEW 9:1 COMPRESSION ENGINES IN THE HOBBY STOCK AND B-MOD CLASSES. by: Ron Lueck - Track Spokesman MOBERLY, MO (Mar 25) - The preceeding week's rainy weather in Moberly actually helped out in the track prep for the upcoming weekend's practice days set for this March 29th and 30th and also for April 5th and 6th. The half mile clay surface is in race-ready shape and ready for some racecars and drivers to get in their laps and needed seat-time. Practice will be Saturday and Sunday at 24 Raceway for the next two weekends during daytime hours only. The track will be available for practice time from Noon to dusk for qualified drivers of all classes with a $10 admission per person entering the pit area. A signed release will be mandatory. This practice includes late models, sprints and any classic dwarf cars wishing to attend. General bleacher viewing is free, but the concessions will only be open in the pit area. With the new engine compression rules for both the B-mods and Hobby Stock classes now set at 9.0 to 1 and a 360 cubic inch size limit for both of these classes (370 for Mopars), the tech staff will be on hand for answers to questions that arise. The tech team for the facility will be present to go over any items of concern on those classes, as well as the other 3 regular season classes of A-mod, Sportsman & 4 Cylinder Hornets. Cars may be brought to the track for inspection without actually having to pay to come in and use the track. That phone number at the track is 660-269-9300. Updated rules concerning all five classes are available on the web site of www.24racewayinmoberly.com under the forum section. Our webmaster, Sam Smith, will be back from Iraq in a few weeks to handle some needed updates on the site for easier use. Track memberships can be paid anytime this weekend with the forms being completed at the pit booth. And concrete pad rentals can also be reserved for the 2008 season this weekend. There's still a few available, but the remainders are on the 1st come - 1st rented availabilty. Here's some highlights of the upcoming 2008 Race season at 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO: Opening day is set for April 12th with season ticket prices still staying the same at $10 for adults and $5 for kids, ages 6 to 12. Five year olds and under are free. This year's pit pass also stays the same as last year's price at $25 per night. A laminated and coded 2008 season pass to the bleachers for all 28 racing dates is available. This year's schedule gets a pretty good start at 24 Raceway with Late Models coming out on the second week of operation. The United Late Model Association's first special event for 2008 is the ULMA Spring Challenge on April 19th and is paying $1000 to win, as this promises to be a rather big night. And back for another three nights are the always popular Winged Outlaw Warriors 360 cubic inch Sprints with the 9th annual Gary Scott Memorial race on May 24th, and the 2nd annual Bob Whitehead Memorial race on July 19th. Their 3rd appearance will be the first All 360 cubic inch engine event at 24 Raceway on September 20th and known as the 360 Fall Classic. Joining the W.O.W. Sprints for this September night will be the B-modifieds and Hobby Stocks classes for extended lap events. Once again, one of the biggest nights on this summer's schedule will be July 3rd, a Thursday night this time, with only two classes set to race in some fast competition. Those unlimited Late Models from the Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) are set to appear with their O'Reilly's sponsored Touring Series, along with the annual running of the Pro-modifieds in the Firecracker Forty, a 40-lap event. Following those 2 features on July 3rd will be that spectacular fireworks show at the racetrack that folks have come to know and enjoy! One particular race to watch for is a stop by the United States Modified Touring Series on August 2nd. A possible 70-car count for these Pro modifieds is what has been forcasted from the USMTS organizers. Watch for more info during the 2008 season on all of these events, as well as some additions to the post points season racing in September. This would include the 6th annual B-modified Championship Shootout with its 30-lap custom race format, sponsored by MHC Kenworth, and the annual Labor Day Speedbowl, now back to a two-day event. See ya Saturday nite at the races with "Dirt Track Racing at its Best" at the high banks of 24 Raceway in Moberly. www.24racewayinmoberly.com |
