Dawson County Raceway Fans To "See" Changes in
2006
by Darin Racek
Lexington, Ne (April 9, 2006) - The Dawson County Ag Society has agreed to make
Allen Wissmann of Bertrand the 2006 track promoter for Dawson County Raceway in
Lexington. Wissmann has 15 years of racing experience in everything from the old
Bronco class up to the current IMCA Modified division. He is also the owner and
operator of The Auto Shack in Bertrand, a NAPA Autocare parts store and service
and repair center. Aside from the change in promoter, the biggest change will
regard the race car pit area. For the past seventeen race seasons, the pitting
area has been on the infield of the track. As more and more teams have gone to
hauling their cars in enclosed trailers, the view of the back stretch and back
corners have been more and more blocked for many people in the grandstand. With
the exception of the August 20 Dawson County Fair races, the pit area will be to
the south and west of the track, which will give everyone in the grandstand
clear sight all the way around the fast 3/8 mile track. Also during the season,
there will be select nights when an area fast food vendor will set up a booth
with some of its food items for sale, giving the fans even more variety to the
food they can purchase at the races.
Each racing Sunday night, beginning May 7, four classes will run on Dawson
County Raceway, three of them sanctioned by the International Motor Contest
Association. The IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, and Hobby Stocks will
run every race night. Three other classes will alternate during the season.
Mini-Sprints will make their first appearance since 1988. The Cruisers will also
return after a two year hiatus. The Grand National Late Models, the type of Late
Model class that runs at some of the race tracks in Eastern Nebraska, will also
run on selected nights.
On race nights, the gates will open at 5 PM, and the races will begin at 7 PM
Central Time. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children under 12, and kids
five and under will be allowed in free. For more information contact Allan
Wissmann at 308-472-5306 or 308-991-4645 during the day, or 308-472-3214 in the
evenings. On race days, call 308-324-5000. Rainout information will be announced
on KELN 97.1 FM, KRVN 93.1 FM, and Y102.3 FM.
