Wallace Triumphs, Brady and Aaron Koch Winners at Dawson County Raceway
By Darin Racek

LEXINGTON, Ne. (May 21, 2006) - The returned to Dawson County, but the evening air was pleasant at Dawson County Raceway on May 21. Ronnie Wallace of North Platte, Brady Koch and Jason Koch of Cambridge, and the team of Adam Cook and Chris Graczyk of Ravenna all had pleasant runs, as they were the A Feature winners of the night.

The IMCA Modified A Feature was packed front to back with drivers capable of winning the race. Heat winners Jay Steffens of North Platte and Scott Blessing started side-by-side on the front row, with Steffens taking the lead on the opening lap. Ronnie Wallace started on row two, but found his way underneath Steffens for the lead on lap three. Wallace would get some breathing room after Steffens would have a challenge from Overton driver Chad Dolan. A caution with about four laps to go aligned the field nose-to-tail. That gave Steffens one more shot at the lead, but Wallace would not be denied. Steffens was able to hold off Dolan for second place, as had to hold off Dan Carl of North Platte and Charley Brown of Maxwell. Behind them was heat winner Robby Haines of Benkelman.

Three different drivers enjoyed the official lead of the IMCA Stock Car A Feature. Jim Hagan of Eddyville had it until fellow heat race winner Steve Aitken of Cozad got by on lap two. Cash Dash winner Brady Koch came from row four a few laps later to garner the top spot. Shane Stout of North Platte tried to make it four official leaders, catching up to Koch and giving him a good battle. Stout actually at one point got a fender out front, but Koch came to the start finish line out front and held the spot to the end. Stout pushed up the track with a lap to go, allowing Aitken to get back by for second place. Jim Hagan respectfully finished in fourth place, and Jason Smidt of Minden rounded out the top five.

Jason Koch of Cambridge was in search of getting his third A Feature win for the weekend in the IMCA Hobby Stock class. He moved up from his fourth row starting spot to near the front when his car looped around and was collected on lap three. That put an end to his night. Leader Greg Hoing of Johnson Lake may have thought he dodged a bullet, but there was one more Koch prowling in the field. Heat race victor Aaron Koch was behind him when the race resumed, and got by for the lead on lap four. Aaron Koch would drive away from the field and earn the win. Hoing kept Jeromy Wagner of Kensington, Kan., at bay to maintain second place at the end. Veterans Austin Davis of Benkelman and Bret Hagan of Gibbon battle for forth place for much of the race. Davis won the spot.

The Cruisers lived up their “Wild and Wacky” moniker. Jeremy Simmons and Roger Deal of Norton, Kan., jumped out to a big lead at the start of the race. Heat winners J. C. Ourada and Josh Graczyk of Elm Creek ran much of the race in second, keeping the Kansas Cruiser in their line of sight. That sight was hindered when the hood on their Chevy Station Wagon flew up, forcing them to head to the infield. Simmons and Deal were cruising when their Cruiser shelled the drive shaft with a little more than one lap to go in the race. That handed the lead over to Adam Cook and Chis Graczyk, and it was one they would not relinquish. Kelly and Fran Murr of Gibbon had handling issues early, but they were able to finish in second place. Jim and Adam Nielsen of Eddyville barely finished in third place.

Dawson County Raceway will be back in action Sunday night, May 28, with the races starting at 7 PM. The three IMCA classes will be joined by the Grand National Late Model division.
