Action Fast and Furious at Culbertson Speedway

Culbertson, Ne. (May 26, 2006) - The racing was hard at Culbertson Speedway May 26, and unfortunately, so were a couple of the wrecks. Robby Haines of Benkelman, Caleb Peters and Cindy Murray of Oberlin, Kan., Jason Koch of Cambridge, and Karl Wickizer of Palisade were the hardest driving drivers who found their way into victory lane.

Robby Haines paced all 20 laps of the IMCA Modified A Feature. Heat race winner David Murray, Jr. of Oberlin, Kan., moved to second early in the race, but rode his brakes so hard, they glowed red. He finished well behind Haines at the finish line. Jay Schilling of McCook finished in third place, ahead of Brice Riley of Indianola and Nick Tubbs of Brewster, Kan. Jay Steffens of North Platte was the other heat race winner.

On the last lap of the IMCA Stock Car A Feature, Caleb Peters found a way by Bob Chalupa from McCook to earn the A Feature victory. Todd Chrisman of North Platte finished in third place. Nick Tubbs survived a tangle with Bill Matson for fourth place, while Kyle Werkmeister of Maywood finished in fifth place. Peters was also the heat race winner.

For the second time at Culbertson Speedway this year, Michael Brunswig’s car ended up on it’s top in corner four. The Benkelman driver walked away from the wreck. Aaron Koch of Cambridge, the Cash Dash winner, paced the first half of the race. His brother Jason got by him to lead the second half and the last lap. Heat winner Jason was followed at the finish line by Aaron, Jebb Tally of Oberlin, Kan., Justin Wagner of Culbertson, and Austin Davis of Benkelman. Les Janousek of Trenton won the other heat race.

On the opening lap of the Classic Modified A Feature, the centerlink broke on the car of heat race winner A. C. Werner of Palisade. His car slid up in corner three, collecting the cars of Larry Pollmann of McCook and Devin Allen of Culbertson. Werner complained of back pain and was meticulously taken from his car and to the hospital. When the race resumed, Karl Wickizer dominated the lap-shortened event. Max Pollmann of Trenton came home in second place, ahead of Culbertson drivers Duke Ebert and Mike Brenning. Loren Pollmann of McCook rounded out the top five.

Cindy Murray took the lead from Delbert Ridenour of Culbertson on the second lap of the Mini-Truck A Feature and would not relinquish it. Heat winner Brice Riley, racing for Sara Murray, and Leelan Bieker of McCook applied pressure most of the race, but finished in second and third, respectively. David Wimer of Trenton and Mike Schrader of Benkelman rounded out the top five.

Culbertson Speedway is next in action on June 9, with races starting at 8 PM, CDT.
