Dillenburg Does It at Lincoln County Raceway
By Darin Racek

NORTH PLATTE, NE (May 27, 2006) - A hot and windy few days gave the Lincoln County Raceway track crew extra work in getting the track race ready, but they were able to accomplish to make raceable tracks for the drivers May 27. The drivers responded by driving well, and the races were done in a little more than three hours. Andrew Dillenburg and Todd Chrisman of North Platte, Derek Theim of Columbus, and Jamey Kennicutt of Gothenburg responded by winning the night’s A Features.

Don Hagan, Jr. of Culbertson found his way to the lead at the start of the IMCA Modified A Feature, closely followed by Ronnie Wallace of North Platte. The two put on a show up front, swapping the lead twice, before a caution on lap eleven. After the restart, heat winner Andrew Dillenburg made it known he had a strong car to beat, quickly getting by Wallace. On lap fifteen, he got by Hagan for the lead. When they got to corner two, the two leaders made contact with each other. Dillenburg kept his ship righted while Hagan made a loop. On the restart, Dillenburg drove away from the field en route to his first win of the year. Jim Mlady of North Platte got by Wallace late to earn the runner-up spot. Heat winner Jay Steffens of North Platte finished in fourth, while Cash Dash winner Brandon Hagan of Culbertson finished in fifth place.

Many different drivers took their turns at the front of the IMCA Stock Car A Feature. Tony Ditch of North Platte tried to ditch the field early, but could not shake heat winner Zach Schultz of North Platte. Schultz took the lead on lap three, closely followed by Todd Chrisman. Shawn Bigham of Imperial also got in the fray, racing for many laps side-by-side with heat winner Chrisman. Bigham found his way to the lead before the half way point. After a restart on lap ten, Chrisman began working on the leader, finally garnering the spot on lap thirteen. He would then pull away from the field for the win. After second place did not go to the scale after the race, Shane Stout of North Platte, who was third, moved up to second place in the results. Schultz was credited with third place, heat winner Mikey Dancer of North Platte with fourth, and Justin Bussell of Imperial fifth place.

The track was a little slick early in the IMCA Hobby Stock A Feature, as the field was unable to work in the water on the track before the race was run. Thomas Lower of North Platte skated away from the field early in the race. As the drivers gained their bearings, heat race winners Derek Theim and Jason Koch of Cambridge gained ground on the leader. On lap eleven, Thiem was able to get by the rookie Lower for the lead. Thiem would drive on for his second win of the year. Lower held off Koch for second place, while Les Janousek of Trenton finished in fourth place. Michael Woodhead of Holyoke, Colo., rounded out the top five positions.

The Mini-Sprints ran a clean feature, with only one stoppage of action on lap twelve for a disabled car. Jamey Kennicutt took off from his pole position starting spot and put a huge lead on the field. After the restart on lap twelve, he again extended his lead, only to be reeled in by Jeremy Herbst of North Platte. Herbst, who did double duty driving a Modified and Mini-Sprint that night, made up great ground on the Gothenburg driver, but came up about a car-length short at the finish line of denying him the win. Josh Sabin of North Platte finished in third place, while Rick Putnam of Gothenburg finished in fourth. J. R. Way of Lexington rounded out the top five. The three heat races were won by Kennicutt, Sabin, and Trent Hansen of North Platte. Bob Swedeen of Alliance won the B Feature race.

The next night of racing at Lincoln County Raceway will be Saturday night, June 3, with the races starting at 7 PM. Joining the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks, and Mini-Sprints will be the Late Model division. That class will be running open motor and tire rules for the night.
