Out-Of-Towners Take Home Big Money at Lincoln County Raceway
By Darin Racek
NORTH PLATTE (June 13, 2006) - A crowd of nearly 2,000 adults and many children
came to Lincoln County Raceway to watch drivers in three IMCA classes “Run For
The Money.” The money ran out of town, as Jason Schoenberger of Gorham, Kan.,
Brady Koch of Cambridge, and Jim Buss of Hastings not only ran for the money,
but won the money.
Twenty-five cars started the 25 lap IMCA Modified A Feature. Local driver Andrew
Dillenburg of North Platte took off with the early lead. Unfortunately for him,
caution periods kept the field to close to him. Chuck Stryker of Eddyville
stayed within striking distance, however, it was Jason Schoenberger who was able
to snag the lead on lap nine. Chad Dolan of Overton and Ronnie Wallace of North
Platte joined in on the battle near the front. The battling allowed Schoenberger,
a rookie in this class, to pull away and earn the $1,000 check. Dolan was able
to finish in second place, ahead of Stryker, Wallace, and Dillenburg. Robby
Haines of Benkelman won his B Feature qualifier and came home in sixth place,
ahead of Jay Steffens of North Platte, Charley Brown of Maxwell, Don Hagan, Jr.,
of Culbertson, and Jim Mlady of North Platte. Schoenberger, Wallace, Dolan, and
Dan Carl of North Platte were the four heat race winners. Jeremy Herbst of North
Platte earned the other B Feature qualifier win.
The IMCA Stock Car A Feature started as many cars as the Modifieds did, and ran
as many laps. Brady Koch got by Kenny McCarty of North Platte on the second lap
to take the lead. Todd Chrisman of North Platte was soon to follow. While those
two went on to drive their own race, a good battle was forming behind McCarty
that include Schoenberger, a veteran of the Stock Car class, Shane Stout of
North Platte, and Shane Stutzman of Milford. At the front, Chrisman kept in
close contact with Koch, but finished about a car length behind. Koch’s effort
was worth $800. McCarty stayed clear of the cars behind him to finish in third
place. Shane Stutzman and Jason Schoenberger rounded out the top five. Stout
finished in sixth, ahead of B Feature qualifier winner Bryan Hagan of
Culbertson, Mikey Dancer of North Platte, Dan Lauer of Norton, and B Feature
qualifier winner Lloyd Meeske of Champion. Stout, Chrisman, Stutzman, and
Charley Brown, who also did double duty, were the IMCA Stock Car heat race
winners.
The IMCA Hobby Stock A Feature was a fast-paced, two-cautioned race. Jim Buss
pulled number one out of the draw bucket and started on the pole of the fifteen
lap race. At the start of the race, he took off with the lead. Heat race and
cash dash winner Justin Wagner of Culbertson started back in row four and made a
run for the front. He battled for many laps with Aaron Koch of Cambridge for the
second spot before finally being able to clear him and take the preferred
groove. He had many laps to work on Buss, but “The Bussman” had his preferred
route, and drove smoothly to the win. Koch finished a distance third, ahead of a
three car battle at the finish line. Greg Hoing of Johnson Lake made a bold move
out of corner four to cross the finish line in fourth place, barely ahead of
Kyle Bond of Kearney, and Austin Davis of Benkelman. Thomas Lower of North
Platte was the seventh place finisher, ahead of Bruce Hagan, Sr. of Culbertson,
heat winner Eric Picquet of North Platte, and Shane Klockman of Ogallala. Brett
Hagan of Gibbon was the other IMCA Hobby Stock heat race winner.
Lincoln County Raceway will be back to normal on July 1, when the regular four
classes are scheduled for a 7 PM start time. Before the races, fans will be able
to witness a local stylist “Chop Todd’s Mop”, as IMCA Stock Car driver Todd
Chrisman promised to have his long locks cut off if he was able to raise $1,100
for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He and his crew went over the goal on June 13.
The hair will be donated to Locks of Love.
