Pedersen, Chrisman, Koch, and Herbst Take Lincoln County
Raceway Feature Wins
By Darin Racek
NORTH PLATTE, NE (July 22, 2006) - Twenty degrees difference in temperature
makes a big difference, and it showed at Lincoln County Raceway July 22. With
temperatures in the mid-80’s, the track was easier to maintain, the crowd was
larger, the car count was good, and the racing went smoother, as the last race
was finished fifteen minutes before ten. Dave Pedersen of Brady, Todd Chrisman
and Jeremy Herbst of North Platte, and Jason Koch of Cambridge were pretty
smooth in their A Features as well, taking the wins.
The IMCA Modified A Feature went fourteen laps before the first caution flag
waved. When it did, Dave Pedersen unknowingly had a straightaway lead over Jay
Steffens of North Platte and the rest of the field. Jay not only made his
presence felt on the restart, but so did Ronnie Wallace and Andrew Dillenburg of
North Platte. When Wallace and Dillenburg worked to get by Steffens, Pedersen
again got some breathing room. With two laps to go, the caution came out again,
setting the field up for a shootout. Dillenburg got by Wallace with one lap to
go and tried to set his sights on Dave. However, Pedersen had the line and lined
the car directly to the finish line in first place. Dillenburg was followed by
Wallace and Steffens. Charley Brown of Maxwell rounded out the top five.
Todd Chrisman seems to win his IMCA Stock Car A Features at Lincoln County
Raceway in pairs. Earlier in the season, Chrisman won two weeks in a row. After
winning last week’s main event, he had intentions to do it again. He was running
in third place when the caution slowed the field on lap seven. On the restart,
he got by North Platte racers Zach Schultz and Stew Holmes in corner two and had
a comfortable lead on lap eight. Despite three more cautions, Chrisman was not
threatened out front. Schultz held onto second place at the finish. Shane Stout
of North Platte got by Holmes in the waning laps to take third place, reversing
their finish in their heat race. Lloyd Meeske of Champion started the race in
eighteenth place, but was up to fifth place at the finish.
Jason Koch paced most of the way of the IMCA Hobby Stock A Feature, and had the
lead at the finish. Last week’s winner John Huffman of McCook had a pretty good
run on the road to finish in second place. Bruce Hagan, Sr. of Culbertson took
third place, while Thomas Lower of North Platte finished in fourth. Shane
Klockman of Ogallala rounded out the top five.
The Mini Sprints went twenty laps in their A Feature without a caution period.
Toph Harmon of Holbrook took the lead on lap three from John Webster of North
Platte and drove out to a nice lead. Jeremy Herbst kept him in eyesight and
found his way around Harmon on lap thirteen. Herbst led the last seven laps en
route to the win. Harmon maintained second place. Trent Hansen of North Platte
finished in third, ahead of Webster. Josh Sabin of North Platte rounded out the
top five.
The Lincoln County Ag Society Sandhills Shootout is the next event at Lincoln
County Raceway. The race this year will be two night, July 28 - 29, and will
include the Modified and Stock Car classes. Qualifying and Pole Dashes will be
run the first night, with last chance races and A Features running on Saturday.
Based on 50 cars, the Modifieds could run for $5,000 to win. Based on 40 cars,
the winner of the Stock Car Feature could win $2,000. The races will start at 7
PM each night. Grandstand prices will be $10 for adults on Friday night and $12
on Saturday night. Admission for kids 6 - 12 will be $5 each night, and kids
under 6 will not be charged. Advanced tickets are on sale around North Platte
which could save an adult $2 on a two night pass.
