SHRYOCK RETURNS TO EAGLE RACEWAY WINNERS CIRCLE
by: Jeff Nun

EAGLE, Neb. (July 17) - Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, raced to his 11th National Event victory with the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series Tuesday night at the Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb. The eight-time defending O’Reilly USMTS national champion held off early challenges from Jason Friesen and Jason Krohn, then drove away from the field after a lap 12 caution to score the $2,000 top prize. It was Shryock's second straight win at Eagle Raceway's Modified Madness presented by 94.1FM.

Shryock drew the pole position for the 35-lap Holley "A" Main after AFCO Pole Award winner Friesen drew the outside of the front row. At the drop of the green flag, Shryock beat Friesen into turn 1 and paced the Sutton, Neb., pilot to the completion of lap 1. Friesen kept Shryock in his sights, but a blown motor midway through the race ended his hopes for a second O’Reilly USMTS win in his home state.

Krohn, who has notched three O’Reilly USMTS wins this season, pressured Shryock through the middle portion of the race while several cautions slowed the action, but was never able to mount a serious challenge for the top spot and had to settle for the runner-up finish.

Al Hejna of Clear Lake, Iowa, finished third, with 14th-starting Tommy Weder Jr. of Woodward, Okla., earning the Olympic Fire Protection Hard Charger honors with his fourth-place finish. Zack VanderBeek of New Sharon, Iowa, grabbed fifth after starting 13th.

The O’Reilly USMTS returns to action on Wednesday night (July 18) with their second visit of the season to the Kasson, Minn.) Speedway. On Thursday, the series travels to the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa, before wrapping up the four-race swing at the Tri-Oval Speedway in Fountain City, Wis.
