Brown, Werkmeister, Bond, and Farley Win at Lincoln County Raceway By Darin Racek NORTH PLATTE, NE (August 9) - After two weeks of no racing, Lincoln County Raceway was back in action on August 9. Charley Brown of Maxwell, Casey Werkmeister of Maywood, Kyle Bond of Kearney, and Austin Farley of Brighton, Colorado were back in action, taking the A Feature wins. The night was a special night, as money and awareness was raised for the American Cancer Society Lincoln County Relay for Life. Nearly $250 was raised as a combination of donations and part of the 50/50 money. In the IMCA Modified A Feature, there were times when it appeared the drivers had more than two weeks off, as seven cautions during the first twelve laps bogged down the race. Heat race winner Don Hagan, Jr. of McCook took the lead on lap two and stayed out in front of the trouble. Heat winner Charley Brown worked his way from the sixth row into second place early, but could not get by Hagan until after the last caution. Hagan moved up on the track, which finally allowed Brown to sneak underneath him on lap fourteen and drive off with the win. Hagan, who started on the fourth row, still had one of his best runs in a long time in his second place finish. B Feature winner John Huffman of McCook finished the race in third place, but his car failed to make weight at the scale after the race. That moved heat winner Ronnie Wallace of McCook into fourth place, who had to come from the back to reach the spot. Cole Hodges of Ogallala and Andrew Dillenburg of North Platte rounded out the top five. Although the IMCA Stock Car A Feature had only one caution, it looked as though there would me multiple pileups in the early part of the race. On the opening lap, the battle for second went four-wide on the backstretch, and the second lap was about that wild for third place. Brent Gibson of North Platte took the lead at the start and managed a nice lead over the field. Casey Werkmeister started back in row three and somehow managed to clear the battles to move into second place, but had his work cut out for him to catch Gibson. The work was made easier when the caution came out on lap four for a single car spin. On the restart, Werkmeister got by Gibson, and went on for his second track feature win of the year. Gibson, who’s ride this year is in his first racing gig in over a decade, still made it a great race for him, holding off heat winner Charley Brown for second place. Colton Osborne of Cozad and Buddy Brown of North Platte rounded out the top five. North Platte racers Todd Chrisman and Travis Tilford were the other two heat race victors, and Justin Bussell of Imperial took the B Feature win. Kyle Bond came back to North Platte after his regular track rained out and took his second consecutive IMCA Hobby Stock A Feature win. Bond, who is currently second in the national IMCA Hobby Stock points, took the lead on lap three and never looked back. Track point leader Austin Davis of Benkelman was the runner-up in the event. Dan Morash of North Platte finished in third place, ahead of heat winners Jack Sherman of Kearney and Miles White of North Platte. Austin Farley doubled-up on his win in the Mini-Sprint class. After taking the heat win, Farley jumped out to the lead on the opening lap and never looked back. The number 20 and 23S Mini-Sprints have rotating drivers, and no one reported as to whom was driving what. Whoever was in the 20 car started in the back of the A and finished in second place. Arden Myers of McCook was alone in third place. J. R. Way of Lexington dueled the 23S car at the end, and took the fourth spot. Lincoln County Raceway will be back in action on Saturday night, August
16. The gates open at 5 PM, and the races will start at 7 PM, Central Time.
It will be Food Pantry night, and fans are asked to bring a non-perishable
food item to the races to help fill the pantry shelves. |
