Ed Milne New Promoter for Lincoln County Raceway
by Darin Racek
NORTH PLATTE, NE (March 5) - On March 2, The Lincoln County Ag Society
awarded the promoting job of Lincoln County Raceway to Ed Milne of North
Platte. Milne has been involved in racing for many years, beginning with a
driving career nearly 20 years ago, and selling race car parts since 1994.
He is a current member of the Ag Society and former member of its
motorsports committee which, among other responsibilities, organizes the
fair race. Milne resigned from that post after the Ag Society approved his
proposal to run the track for the 2009 season.
Milne's initial goal is to keep a racing program going in North Platte. When
a track takes a year off, interest wanes, and people tend to find other
pursuits. There were over 40 race cars just from North Platte that raced in
2008. A year off would probably find many of those cars scrapped or sold to
people from out of the area. By racing this year, Milne hopes to keep those
cars in the area, and provide drivers and fans a place to race and have fun.
Milne is hoping to keep the show under three hours long to keep the fans in
the stands, allowing them to be able to enjoy an entire show before 10 PM.
Three classes will definitely make up the regular schedule on the 3/8-mile
track. The Modifieds will be the headlining class. They will be sanctioned
by International Motor Contest Association, which has sanctioned the class
in North Platte since the early 1990's. The Stock Cars have been sanctioned
at Lincoln County Raceway by IMCA since 2002, and North Platte is a major
hub of cars and drivers of this division. The IMCA Hobby Stocks are on their
fourth year of racing here. The class has been built at a slow, but steady,
pace. Milne has yet made a decision regarding Mini-Sprints.
Weather permitting, Lincoln County Raceway will run eleven shows, not
counting the Lincoln County Ag Society's Eleventh Annual Sandhills Shootout
on July 24-25. The season will begin on May 9th, and run through August
22nd. If there is a rainout on any regular night, August 29th will be added
to the schedule. Other than the Tuesday night June 16 event and the opening
night of the Shootout, the races will be on Saturday nights. The gates will
open at 5 PM CDT, and the races will start at 7 PM CDT. Milne is trying to
have the track ready for a practice day, but information on that is yet to
be determined. Drivers attending practice day will be required to register
before they practice.
Ticket prices for regular shows will be $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for
children 6 - 12, and free for children under 6. Pit passes will be $20. Pits
stalls may be reserved on a first come, first served basis by contacting
Milne. For more information on anything, please contact Ed Milne at
308-530-1578, or 308-532-1274 during business hours. Lincoln County Raceway
is on the Lincoln County Fairgrounds on the western edge of North Platte
along U. S. Highway 30.
