NORTH PLATTE, Nebr. (July 11) After a week off, Lincoln County Raceway was back in action on July 11. A curve ball in the weather threw a curve ball for track prep, and it took extra effort to get the track rolled in. Once the track was ready to go, the drivers put on a good show for the fans. Bo Egge of Kearney, Colton Osborn of Cozad, Ron Edge of Amherst, Colo., and John Webster of North Platte rolled away with the A Feature wins for the night. Heat race winner Bo Egge started on the pole of the IMCA Modified A Feature and took off with the lead, followed by Josh Sabin of North Platte. After a lap six caution, Sabin’s car would not go and ended his chance at a good finish. Charley Brown of Maxwell moved his way into second place and had some difficulty reeling in Egge until the leader came up on a slower car. With one lap to go, Bo got off the gas and allowed Charley to get within earshot, but once he saw the way by the slower car, Egge hit the gas, made the pass, and held Brown off for his first feature win at Lincoln County Raceway in a Modified. Jeremy Frenier of Fort Morgan, Colo. passed Andrew Dillenburg of North Platte in the waning laps to garner a third place finish. Cole Hodges of Ogallala and Jim Mlady of North Platte battled throughout the entire second of the race for position, and Hodges was able to take fifth place. Jay Steffens of North Platte was the other heat winner for the Modifieds. The IMCA Stock Car A Feature was halted on the second lap after Bill Dover rode the concrete barrier on the front stretch and flipped his car onto the driver side door. Despite taking several minutes to get out of the car, Dover was able to walk away from his car, which was in its first night of competition. While Kyle Werkmeister of Maywood was working his car out front, it was evident Colton Osborn of Cozad and Jesse Taylor of Fort Morgan, Colo. were tracking him down. As the drivers were coming around to complete lap eleven, Osborn made the pass. Werkmeister’s car briefly shut off after he hit the brake to avoid contact with Osborn’s car, which was a surprise to Taylor, whom ended up in Werkmeister’s car. Werkmeister was out of contention, but Taylor was able to realign behind Osborn on the restart. For the next nine laps, Osborn, a feature winner earlier this year in McCook, kept his eyes on the prize he had been trying to obtain in his three-year career, a Lincoln County Raceway feature win. Taylor, who recently picked up his first IMCA Stock Car Feature win in Holyoke, Colorado, settled for second spot. Casey Werkmeister of Maywood held Charley Brown off for third spot, while Brent Gibson of North Platte earned a top five finish. Osborn, Taylor, and Brown were the three winners of the IMCA Stock Car heat races. Ron Edge tasted victory for his first time ever in the IMCA Hobby Stock division, and it left him very happy and satisfied after three years of trying. The Colorado driver started on row one alongside heat winner Rick Eller of North Platte. Dan Morash of North Platte started on the second row, and he kept Edge within two car lengths of the front of his car in the caution-free event. Edge would miss his marks in corner four a few times, and those moments found Morash getting closer and closer. Near the end of the race, he would get through the corner better and to the finish line first. Cash Dash winner Leland Stute of Benkelman would finish in third place. Jack Sherman of Kearney, in his first race after heavy damage at Dawson County Raceway nearly three weeks before, was the fourth place finisher. Point leader Austin Davis of Benkelman finished in fifth place. While John Webster has had Mini-Sprint victories in previous years, Saturday night’s was his first of the season. Heat winner J. R. Way of Lexington took the lead early in the race and protected the low line. Webster found that his car could work a little higher after an intermission blading of the track, and on lap five, used the line to find the way by Way. Cory Kelley of North Platte finished in third place. McCook driver Arden Myers finished in fourth place. Birthday boy Shane Sundquist of Loomis celebrated his fifteenth birthday with a fifth place finish. Lincoln County Raceway will be back in action next Saturday night, July
18, at 7 PM. It will be night number eight of the Burger King Nine for Nine
Challenge Series for the IMCA Hobby Stocks. The IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock
Cars, and the Mini-Sprints will be back ready to race as well.
