Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods become 4th IMCA division at McCook

McCOOK, Neb. (Feb. 25) – Weekly race programs at McCook Speedway become exclusively IMCA this season, with the addition of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division.

IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks will also be featured in 11 Friday and one Thursday show. The first night for points is April 2.

Northern SportMods continue to be IMCA’s fastest growing division. McCook became the seventh track to add the class in 2010, joining neighboring Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte and Dawson County Raceway in Lexington with the new sanction.

“These cars have run non-sanctioned in our area before. We’re hoping that by going with IMCA rules, we can get 12 to 15 of them a night,” said Dennis McFarland, who returns to the local promoter’s post after three years. “I know of five in the McCook area that are being built now and of more in Lexington and North Platte.”

McFarland will bring back most of the crew that worked for him during his 2004-2006 promotional stint at McCook.

“This track has gotten good car counts in the past and we hope we can do that again,” he said.

Rain dates built into McCook’s 2010 schedule are May 21 and July 2. Final night for IMCA points is Aug. 20 and all four track champions are already in line for $200 cash bonuses from local sponsors.

McCook is part of IMCA’s ButlerBuilt Central Region for Modifieds and Probe Industries Northern Regions for both Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks.

Burger King returns as title sponsor of the 9-for-9 Challenge at McCook, Lincoln County and Dawson County, with more than $2,500 in bonuses to be paid to registered Modified drivers this season.
