LEXINGTON, NE (March 20) - Dawson County Raceway promoter Allen Wissmann, as well as many other people in racing, has seen the rise in popularity in the Northern SportMod class and has opted to add the division to his program for 2010. The class, sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA), is an economical Modified division, with limitations on setups and engine rules similar to the IMCA Hobby Stock class, with a crate motor option. The tracks in North Platte and McCook have also decided to run the IMCA SportMod class, and that should help with the car count. The Modifieds, Stock Cars, and Hobby Stocks, all IMCA-sanctioned, will be back on the fast 3/8-mile oval. Dawson County Raceway will begin the season with a test and tune day on Sunday afternoon, April 25, from 2:30-5:00 PM, Central Time. Participating drivers will need to complete a registration before practice. The season opener will be on Sunday, May 2. Racing most Sunday nights during the summer, the season championship races will be on August 22. The IMCA Modifieds will be able to participate in the 9 for 9 challenge. Information on that will be given at another time. A season ending banquet is also scheduled for December 11 at the Holiday Inn Express. The United Rebel
Sprint Series, headquartered in Oberlin, Kansas, will again make three
appearances to the track. The Blood, Sweat, and Tears Modified series will
be on hand during the Dawson County Fair race. The Second annual Husker
Fall Nationals event for all four divisions has been scheduled for September
25-26. The starting times for this have yet to be determined because of the
time of the year.
