Osborn
Wins Two Features at Lincoln County Raceway By Darin Racek NORTH PLATTE, NE. (May 8) - The weather was not fan friendly at Lincoln County Raceway May 8, as a cold wind from the southeast kept the crowd in a shiver all night. The racing was good in the five classes that were on hand, and that was why the fans were there. Colton Osborn of Cozad, David Murray, Jr. of Oberlin, Kan., Corey Cruzan of Maxwell, and Cory Kelley of North Platte handed the rest of the competitors losses, as they were the night’s A Feature winners. Heat race winner Bryan Herrick of Curtis took the lead in the IMCA SportMod A Feature on lap four from Shane Stout of North Platte. A couple of cautions kept stout and Colton Osborn close. Osborn had moved into second place by a lap fourteen caution, and began applying the pressure. With three laps to go, the Cozad driver was able to drive underneath the Curtis driver, and Stout came along with him. Stout applied the pressure, but could not deny Osborn the win. Herrick finished in third place, with Austin Davis of Benkelman finishing in fourth place and newcomer Jacob Adler of Holyoke, Colo. finishing in fifth place. Breaking early in the IMCA Stock Car A Feature last week aided heat winner Osborn to start on the second row of this week’s A Feature. Colton raced out to an early lead, followed by Casey Werkmeister of Maywood, Cale Osborn of Cozad, and Charley Brown of Maxwell. Mike Nichols of Harlan, Iowa, the other Stock Car heat race winner moved more slowly through the field, yet picked them off one by one until he got into second place. He could get no further, meaning Colton Osborn held on for the win and won his second A Feature of the night. Werkmeister was followed by Cale Osborn at the finish line for third place. Kyle Clough of Wallace, moving over from the Modified division, finished in fifth place. Jeremy Herbst of North Platte went to the top spot at the beginning of the IMCA Modified A Feature, and had built himself a comfortable lead over the field. A caution on lap four for a one car spin brought everyone closer, most notably David Murray. Murray had come from the fifth row at the start of the race to take the lead from Herbst on lap six. After the fifth caution flag flew with three laps to go, Murray had someone new on his tail, Ronnie Wallace of McCook. While many wondered if Wallace would take advantage of a Murray miscue, it was Wallace who took corner one wrong, and lost two spots to his McCook teammates Brandon Hagan and his father Don Hagan, Jr. Wallace would finish in fourth place behind those two, with Brandon and Don falling in order behind Murray. Jim Mlady of North Platte would sneak into fifth place. Murray and Charley Brown won the Modified heat races. Dan Morash of North Platte came about one lap from having a perfect night in his IMCA Hobby Stock. After winning his heat race and the cash dash, Morash went to the lead of the fifteen lap Hobby Stock A Feature and set the pace. Jason Stephens of McCook applied some early pressure to no avail. Corey Cruzan took some time in getting settled down in his race car. When he did, he passed Stephens and closed in on Morash. After bobbling with two laps to go, it appeared he was out of contention. However, on the last lap, he shot under Morash in corner two, made the pass, and earned his first feature win of the year. Morash and Stephens were followed by Ron Edge of Amherst, Colo. and Rick Eller of North Platte. The Mini-Sprints made their first of three appearances on May eight, with fourteen cars from three different states. While Cory Kelley and Brighton, Colo. driver Andy Farley won the two heat races, youngster Auston Pribbenow of Elizabeth, Colo. jumped to the lead of their main event. For the first eleven laps, it appeared no would deny the Colorado youngster from a win. However, after a lap eleven caution, Kelley, who was running in second place, made his move, taking the lead from Pribbenow on the first lap after the caution, and driving away for his second win in two nights. (He won the previous night in McCook as well.) Andy Farley finished in second place, ahead of Arden Myers of McCook, Pribbenow, and Shane Sundquist of Loomis. The Mini-Sprints are set to return July 10. The regular classes will be back in action on Saturday, May 15. It will be a Burger King 9 for 9 Challenge Race for the Modifieds. The gates will open at 5 p.m., and the races will start at 7 p.m., Central Time.
