Rain Halts Action at McCook Speedway
By Darin Racek
McCOOK, NE. (June 11) - Just as the first A Feature hit the track, big
raindrops started to fall at McCook Speedway. Between that and other bad
weather reported in the area, promoter Dennis McFarland made the call to
halt the races for the night. The four A Features will be run on June 25,
before the regular program. The gates that night will open at 6 p.m., and
the races will start at 8 p.m.
June 11 was the Don, Sr. and Ruth Hagan Memorial races, with money paid out
to the top three finishers in every heat race. In the IMCA Modified
division, David Murray of Oberlin, Kansas and Jeremy Herbst of North Platte
were the heat race winners. Kyle Werkmeister of Maywood and Cale Osborn of
Cozad took the IMCA Stock Car heat wins. Shane Stout of North Platte was the
winner of the IMCA SportMod heat race. The IMCA Hobby Stock heat race was
won by Todd Pankonin of Benkelman. Fellow hometown driver Leland Stute won
the cash dash.
