LEXINGTON, NE (July 11) - A fast moving storm with a bad reputation forced the cancellation of the races at Dawson County Raceway before the night could be completed. The three A Features that were not run will be made up on July 18. The IMCA Hobby Stocks were able to run their A Feature event before the storm came. Trying to help out, the drivers did what they could, running a caution-free event for the entire fifteen laps. Heat race winners Allen Halte of Grand Island and Terry Eatherton of Gibbon started on the front row and got a good lead on the other drivers, with Halte showing the way. While five other drivers dropped out with mechanical troubles, these two kept on the gas and stayed ahead the entire way. Lapped traffic was about the only thing that slowed Halte down, but not long enough for Eatherton to catch up, pass, or take the win from the Grand Island driver. Newcomer Shane Schneider of Henderson started back in row six and probably would have liked to seen a late caution after moving into third place, where he finished. Lonnie Greuter of Grand Island beat heat winner Jim Buss of Blue Hill to the finish line for fourth place. Robby Leonard of Gibbon and Vince Leibert of Lexington were the winners of the heat races for the IMCA SportMods. Leonard won a strange cash dash that started four cars, but at nearly all the same time, fourth place Colton Osborn of Cozad pulled to the pits, leader Eric Steinmark of Kearney drove off of corner three and backed nearly into a tree, and third place Leibert broke in corner two. Leonard was the last man standing, and won the cash. The IMCA Stock Cars put on two interesting heat races. In the opening heat race, it came down to a battle of the Clough brothers of Wallace, with Kyle keeping Brandon at bay for the win. In the second heat, Mike Nichols of Harlan, Iowa tried to get by Ozzie Romero of Cozad on the last corner of the last lap, but Romero slid up high, slowing both of them down and allowing Casey Werkmeister of Maywood to sneak underneath and earn the IMCA heat race sticker. The IMCA Modifieds were hammer-down as well for the heats. Bo Egge of Kearney was high, wide, and handsome as he slung his car around the track for the first Modified heat race win. Jeremy Frenier of Fort Morgan, Colorado took advantage of Dave Pedersen of Brady on a restart in the second heat race to take the lead and eventual win. July 18 was already a special night for the Dawson County Fair. The three A Features from July 11 will be added to the bill, which features the IMCA Modified Blood, Sweat, and Tears touring series. The addition of these three races will make it a special event night even bigger. By the way, only the cars that were in Lexington on July 11 will be eligible to run the make-up features. The grandstand will open at 5 p.m., and the races will start at 6:30 p.m., Central Time. Grandstand admission will be $12.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 6-12. Pit passes will be $25.00.
