Kelly Boen Wires Field to Score the Win on Night Number One
at the Lucas Oil MLRA/NCRA King of the Hill Shootout
McCOOL JUNCTION, NE (August 13, 2010) - Henderson, Colorado's Kelly Boen
wired the field in a twenty five lap main event earning him $2,000 at Friday
night's King of the Hill Showdown at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool
Junction, Nebraska. Boen qualified on the pole by advancing six positions in
his heat race from eighth to second. This is Boen's second win of the year
with the Lucas Oil MLRA, as he also won the Alphabet Soup Race at I-80
Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska on May 30th.
The second and third place finishers advanced from mid-pack to near the
front throughout the duration of the race. Omaha, Nebraska's John Anderson
started tenth and slowly moved to the front, overtaking Travis Dickes for
second. Mike Wiarda, who started eleventh, also kept his nose clean and came
on at the end to record a strong third place finish. Travis Dickes flirted
with the front, but ultimately would end up fourth and Kyle Berck finished
fifth.
The race had several notable points. Brad Looney pulled up lame on a restart
with ten laps to go and was forced to the pits with rear end damage. Looney
relinquished his points lead in the process and recorded his first series
DNF of the 2010 season. Evan Hubert, Rookie of the Year Points Leader, was
forced to the pits with motor issues. A harrowing slide job attempt in turns
1 and 2 by Kyle Berck came up just short as Berck and Council Bluffs, Iowa's
Mike Collins got together. The field was able to quickly check up, and Berck
restarted at the rear after the caution and raced back through the field.
Heat race victories went to Bryant Goldsmith, Mike Collins, Brad Looney and
Travis Dickes. B-Main winners were Mike Wallace and Evan Hubert.
Boen's win is his 17th with the Lucas Oil MLRA. His Roadrunner Fabrication
and Peterson Fluid Systems Rocket chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing
Engine. This race was also co-sanctioned with the O'Reilly NCRA where Boen
is comfortably out front in the season long standings
