LEXINGTON, NE (March 20, 2011) - For the first time since 2003, Dawson County Raceway will have a sanctioned Late Model special. Promoter Allen Wissmann has invited Super Late Model Racing of eastern Nebraska to the fast 3/8-mile dirt oval on July 10, their furthest event out west since its inception. The SLMR series was formed in 2008 by I-80 Speedway as a Late Model series that accomodated for the rules of other touring Super Late Model classes and series. Last year's champion was Kyle Berck of Marquette, who won championships back in Dawson County Raceway in the 1980's. Mike Wiarda of Aurora, another former DCR racer, finished in second place. Mike Marushak of David City, Joe Kosiski of Omaha, and Robbie Anderson of Blair rounded out the top five. Area Late Model drivers that may show up for the race include Chris Avery of Kearney, Steve Kempt of Shelton, Bo Egge of Kearney, and Chad Dolan of Gibbon, who will be competing this year for the first time in a Late Model. The United Rebel Sprint Series, headquartered in Oberlin, Kansas, will make two appearances to the track, May 22 and August 14. The Colorado Mod Lites will clash with the Outlaw Vintage Lite Series on June 5. On all race nights this season, the IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds, Northern SportMods, Stock Cars, and Hobby Stocks will be racing. Dawson County Raceway will begin the season with a test and tune day on Saturday afternoon, April 23, from 2:30-5:00 PM, Central Time. Participating drivers will need to complete a registration before practice. The season opener will be on Sunday, May 1. Racing most Sunday nights during the summer, the season championship races will be on August 21. The IMCA Northern SportMods will be able to participate in the Burger King 9 for 9 challenge, which will also hold a championship race on August 21. A season ending banquet is scheduled for December 10 at the Holiday Inn Express. On race
nights, the gates will open at 5 PM, hotlaps will start around 5:45, and the
races will start at 6:30 PM, Central Time. Grandstand admission prices for
the 2011 season will be $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 - 12 on regular
nights of racing. During the nights of the Sprint Car and Mod Lite events,
grandstand admission prices will be $13 for adults and $5 for children 6 -
12. On the night of the Late Model special, grandstand admission is $18
