NORTH PLATTE, NE (June 7, 2011) - It was time for the annual NebraskaLand National Bank “Run for The Money” at Lincoln County Raceway, and a nice selection of drivers showed up for the event. Jeremy Frenier of Fort Morgan, Colorado, Charley Brown of Maxwell, Colton Osborn of Cozad, and Austin Davis of Benkelman gave it their best run and took home the big checks for the night. A couple of bad starts began the IMCA Modified A Feature, but once everyone figured it out, they went twenty-four laps without a yellow. Jeremy Frenier passed Saturday night’s winner Zach Schultz of North Platte and set out to take a big lead. After a bad heat race performance, David Murray, Jr. of Oberlin, Kansas, started in the back of the race, but was able to pick off the drivers in front of him one by one. When he finally made it to second place, Frenier had a straightaway lead, and maintained that distance to the finish. Schultz stayed ahead of Ronnie Wallace of McCook for third spot. Jim Mlady of North Platte finished fifth. The heat races were won by Colorado drivers Frenier and John Hansen of Brush. After the IMCA Stock Cars had some hi-jinx in the heat races, it was feared the shenanigans would continue in the twenty-two car A Feature. Although the race was slowed by six cautions, the tempers from earlier in the night did not cross. Casey Woken of Ogallala lucked out with the top pill, and started on the pole. Kyle Werkmeister of Maywood pressured him early, then gave way to heat race winner Charley Brown. On lap nine, Brown made his move to the top spot, shortly thereafter followed by the Stock Car of Colton Osborn. Osborn stayed in the jet stream of Brown after the lap sixteen caution for a bit, but Brown pulled away for his second feature win of the year. Werkmeister finished in third place, ahead of heat winner Kyle Clough of Wallace and Nick Tubbs of Colby, Kansas. While his luck was bad in the A Feature, Robby Roselli of Minot, ND had good luck early and won his heat race. Newcomer Darik Fox of O’Neill surprised everyone early in the night by nearly winning his heat race (he was beaten with a dramatic last corner pass by R. C. Heil), and then took the lead of the opening lap of the IMCA Northern SportMod A Feature in spite of starting in the third row. It took some time for the Lincoln County regulars to track him down. Osborn got there first, and took the lead on lap eight. He held on for his third SportMod feature win of the year. Heat race winner Shane Stout of North Platte started back in the ninth spot and eventually caught the two leaders, moving up as far as second place. Cash dash winner Bryan Herrick of Curtis had to start the race fourteenth after a heat race spin he would rather forget, but took his time to charge from there to obtain a third place finish. R. C. Heil went to the back of the line after stopping halfway during the race, and made a comeback to fourth spot. Mikey Dancer of North Platte shuffled Fox out of the top five on the last lap, meaning regulars took the top five finishing spots. Four caution periods during the first five laps of the IMCA Hobby Stock A Feature had people wondering if they could redeem themselves at the end, and they managed to drive the remaining fifteen laps caution free. Lonnie Greuter of Grand Island led those first laps while the field was trying to find it’s way around the track. On lap seven, Cody Ghumm of WaKeeney, Kansas flexed Kansas muscle, driving under Greuter and bringing Austin Davis with him. Ghumm would slide high in corner four two laps later, allowing the green car of Davis to go by and pull out to his second win in as many race nights. Ghumm stayed in second place, ahead of Greuter. Corey Cruzan of Maxwell finished in the fourth spot, while Grand Island driver Tyler Andreasen rounded out the top five. Cruzan was a heat race winner, joining Anthony Martin of Wilcox with that feat this race night. Because of various events around town, Lincoln County Raceway will race again on next Tuesday, June 14. It will be a regular night of racing for the four IMCA divisions. The gates open at 5 p.m., and the races will start at 7 p.m.
