Much discussed Mach-1 Sport Compacts are new Saturdays at Lincoln County

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (Jan. 31) – Conversations held last fall have led to another IMCA division on Saturday race programs at Lincoln County Speedway this season.

Mach-1 Sport Compacts will be new to the 3/8-mile dirt oval, joining the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods.

Opening night is May 5. Point races continue through Aug. 18.

“I met with IMCA officials about Sport Compacts during Super Nationals and again at the national banquet,” promoter Ed Milne said. “One thing that stuck with me were comments about how we’ve lost an entire generation of racers because of the cost.”

“Since then, I’ve talked to three guys who build cars around here and they all thought these 4-cylinder cars would be a great way to get more people involved and provide a class younger drivers could race in,” he continued. “I’ve had good response so far from drivers, too.”

Inquiries about Lincoln County have already come from first-year competitors and drivers looking for another track where they can chase national and Allstar Performance State points. Milne also reported interest from a number of demolition derby regulars in the area.

Points in all five divisions count toward IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing national titles. North Platte is part of IMCA’s Central Region for Modifieds and Probe Industries Northern Regions for Stock Cars and for Hobby Stocks.

Tentative date for the Run For The Money special is Tuesday, June 12.
