Jet Racing signs on as title sponsor of Central Region for IMCA Modifieds

BEATRICE, Neb. (March 1) – One of the most familiar names in dirt track racing takes on a new partnership role with IMCA this season.

Jet Racing becomes title sponsor of IMCA’s Central Region for Modifieds and will pay a portion of the $5,000 point fund designated for top five drivers in final standings for 2012.

The Beatrice, Neb., chassis manufacturer and high performance parts and automotive accessories retailer is owned by Johnny Saathoff, a four-time IMCA Modified national champion and five times the top driver in the Central Region.

All Modified drivers in the region, which includes tracks in Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and eastern Colorado, must display two Jet Racing decals to be eligible for point fund shares. First place pays $2,500, with $1,250 for second, $625 for third, $325 for fourth and $300 for fifth.

“We’ve been interested in becoming title sponsor for this region for a number of years and the opportunity came this season,” said Saathoff, who owns 316 feature victories and 20 track titles over the course of his career in the IMCA class. “The Modifieds are a great division and we’re very happy to become title sponsor of the Central Region.”

Jet began building Modifieds in 1995, later expanding its chassis line to include Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and SportMods. In addition to Saathoff’s crowns in 1996-1999, two other drivers have won IMCA national titles in Jet rides, Jon Thompson in 2002 and Dylan Smith in 2009.

"The partnership is a natural fit based not only on geography but on the relationship we have established with Jet Racing over the past decade and a half,” said Kevin Yoder, director of marketing for IMCA. “It is an excellent opportunity to brand our Modified regions with IMCA chassis builders and we are excited to have Jet headlining the Central Region."

This season is Jet Racing’s 15th as an IMCA sponsor. Jet had previously been title sponsor of Northern regions for Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks, and later gave contingency awards to special events competitors.

“Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks are really starting to take off again in this area,” noted Saathoff. “Northern SportMods are definitely good for racing. They’ve brought the used car market back and because it costs less to run a SportMod than a Modified, they’ve brought a lot of drivers back into the sport.”
